Can’t believe how much @gmanchess nailed this mission patch design! It was so cool to read about the process and how closely he worked with the astronauts of Artemis II. Also, knowing I can watch the @nasa stream of the astronauts going through space at any time of day for the next 10 days is gonna wreck my sleep schedule. FOR ALL HUMANITY !!

Love the penguin characters that illustrator @mattblease recently made for book publisher @penguinrandomhouse . Learned a lot about the history of the branding and mergers of Penguin Random House through the making of this reel. Might even have to make an entire reel all about Jan Tschichold’s “Penguin Composition Rules” that standardized the iconic look of Penguin Books. Not to mention I’m now hyper aware of the penguins on all the sides of books. Keeping my eyes out for the vintage ones. Also the @fastcompany article highlighted is by Grace Snelling

The Threads rebrand was a rumor last week, official this week, and apparently universally hated in the comments. I’m actually pretty into it, so let me try to change your mind. The new italics, the chisel cut type, the new stroke width, and a bunch of other smart graphic design choices shouldn’t be overlooked. So here’s my breakdown of the wordmark and logo update.

The amount of time it USED to take me to rotoscope videos VS how fast the Object Matte tool is now is night and day. But it also one of those things that makes me dread the amount of hours of my life I lost doing it the old way up until this point. New motion designers will never know our pain. I’m getting so used to one click masking on complex subjects, I genuinely can’t be trusted to not cut out everything anymore. lol I’ve been meaning to post about my process for a while since a few folks have asked. And the “that guy is AI” comments have died down a bit since I updated my profile pic, but I still get at least one every post. So when Adobe asked me to walk through how I actually use Object Matte, I felt it was a genuine enough showcase that you guys wouldn’t mind some sponcon. I promise this is my authentic workflow, sponsored #ad or not. And I’m excited to be an #AfterEffectsPartner ! Let me know if you have any questions about my process!

These blue to green gradients and the pink to yellow is bonkers to me. Wondering if it’ll grow on me over time or if they’ll end up reviving the icon system. Google’s new icon library is a great improvement in some places but also a step back in others. What do you think about the designs?

Is the taxi cab you’re sitting in actually an Aston Martin? Be sure to check the logo from the right angle. I guess there is a part of me that can see how the updated logo flies closer to Aston Martin’s geometry but I think that would only hold ground if there weren’t dozens of other auto manufacturers with wings. Not to mention, they weren’t even the first.

Crazy we’re entering a phase where if you can get in and out fast enough, everywheres an Ocean’s Eleven speedrun. Matisse, Renoir, and Cézanne aren’t small names either. The valuations vary and it’s not their most famous work, but still. Four people got into the Magnani Rocca Foundation near Parma, Italy, snagged 3 paintings worth $10 million in under 3 minutes, hopped a fence, and haven’t been seen since. Also the museum didn’t even tell anyone for a week??? lol Couldn’t believe I saw a news article about it this week and hadn’t heard anything about it prior. Did I just miss it, or is this also news to you?

The Masters broadcasted on multiple platforms this year and the portion that was on Prime was caked in graphics and data. I don’t watch golf but I’m always down for an excuse to check out some motion graphics, and the Inside Amen Corner stream was a constant barrage of visual stimulation. Definitely not for everyone, but cool that they gave viewers the option to choose.

I think the Tostitos redesign is VISUALLY successful but it doesn’t match the identity of the brand or product. With this “tradition matters” push they’re trying to reposition themselves as a homemade local tortilla chip brand, which doesn’t match the reality of it being a PepsiCo brand. The design team made some great designs, just not for the right company. What do you think about the logo update? …I was excited I got to sneak the term “salsa dippin friends” into a script. Also - If you’re having Deja Vu, I had to take this down yesterday because there was an issue with HDR and the color space. Here it is fixed.

The New Yorker recently posted an illustration alongside a feature article about Sam Altman. When I saw it featured an AI generated image I immediately clocked it made me feel some type of way. Half made this reel to figure out how I felt. How do you guys feel about it? Where would you put it on the slider?

NOTE: it is a 1 time purchase app At my old job we literally put painters tape on top of the digital display of our cameras for a visual indicator of vertical cropping lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if Apple or Android just end up building this straight into the operating system. Surprised they haven’t at this point. I guess it’s because it quickly takes up double the space, and also it’s harder on the system and battery? I don’t know. So many people would love to be able to film vertically and horizontally at the same time. Glad to see DualShot Recorder is a thing
