Every movement had a hub…Harlem Renaissance, Andy Warhol + The Factory in NY….For San Jose, there was Cannery Park. Not a lot of footage exists from this time, but people like
@ryanmante keep its history alive:
__________
“Cannery Park.
The Attitude Era of San Jose creative culture.
I’m indebted to this time — it shaped who I am today.
This wasn’t just a space… it was a hub filled with hungry, determined creatives, all pushing toward something bigger. Everyone wanted to elevate. Everyone wanted to win.
Doing it alone is one thing.
But having a place like Cannery Park — where inspiration, motivation, and pressure all lived in the same room — made you better.
Call it healthy competition.
Call it camaraderie.
Call it community.
At the time, it felt undefeated.
We were living it in real time — not thinking about documenting it, not thinking about capturing it. Just creating, building, and moving.
That’s what made it real.
That’s what made it special.
Looking back, I wish we had more footage… but maybe that’s part of the story.
This is Part 1 — featuring some of the power players:
• Isaac Helm + Anthony Matsuda (
@bgconcepts )
More than a print shop — true OGs on the block. A place where anything creative could come to life.
• Chris (
@cloutmagazine )
A foundational pillar of Cannery Park. A force in graffiti culture and a San Jose streetwear heavyweight.
• Phil Emerson (
@philemerson )
The lens of the era. A veteran photographer who pushed boundaries and helped define the visual language of Breezy Excursion and Booger Kids.
Put respect on their names.
All the flowers.
All the trophies.
All the accolades.
