Fairy Creek: The recent deferrals from provincial government have not changed anything up there. If anything the police presence has increased. The RCMP are brought from other parts of the province and put in hotels to act as a private security for the logging industry. Waterfall camp on Friday was met with 33 RCMP officers including 6 special unit rope/aerial experts. 3–4 of them usually work while the other 30 officers stand around and talk for 8 hours. They use extremely dangerous techniques to extract peaceful protestors. Excavators, and a multitude of power tools including jackhammers and chainsaws which are literally being used inches from people’s heads and limbs. All endorsed by @johnhorgan4bc and the @bcndp . That being said there are some of the bravest people I’ve ever met up there willing to stand up to them for not only the environment, but for the rights and proper respect to the indigenous people whose land they are on.
