on this day three years ago, i was accosted by a gruesome beast in an incident which, due to ongoing legal proceedings, could not be disclosed publicly until now. the matter has since been resolved through settlement outside of court, and these records are released today solely for the sake of posterity.
after 6 years of pushing it off for various reasons i finally made my little pilgrimage to portugal
the reason why i was there loomed over me the entire trip…it’s such a weird concept to spread ashes, my white lotus season 1 moment honestly!! for a lot of people, highly intentional ceremonious things like might provide closure and i didn’t rule it out for me, but i don’t think how i process things works like that, and honestly it maybe even made me feel worse about it in the long run. but those 6 years thinking about it did give me that push to go out when i otherwise would not have because it’s so much easier and free to feel sorry for myself and never leave my room, but in going i saw a lot and met so many nice people who graciously offered me their time, who welcomed me into their homes, who fed me, who spent time with me for a few hours, or a couple days, or even just helped me in passing to take a picture—even though most of the photos i ended up putting on here i took with a tripod and timer and it was horrifying when people stopped to watch me spend too much time to take what appears to be the most boring travel portraits, if only they realized they were watching a highly intelligent reverse warholian expedition in the making, a deeply emotional journey of grief following in the footsteps of a long gone loved one, and totally not me traveling 3,400 miles just for an instagram carousel that i would post 4 months later (but on his birthday, so it’s meaningful of course)—nonetheless i’m glad i went and i’m very happy with my little project, it was interesting to look at pictures of his from various trips 7+ years ago, find them on google maps beforehand, and see how the locations have changed. i do feel more connected to him and to portugal and i can really can see why he enjoyed portugal despite having no ancestral ties to it. it was a pleasure to see sights and document myself wearing a variation of the same two outfits because i only brought a backpack as a personal item for more than 3 weeks of travel, and it was a pleasure to write a stream of consciousness run on sentence about it!! let’s check in again in 2 years
