When 2025 started, I promised myself I’d open my heart to love again.
I had been single for 5 years, preoccupied with immigration limbo as I was making my way from Toronto to Los Angeles. But it was starting to become clear to me that whoever was to be my partner had to understand the shakiness that can be an actor’s career.
What could’ve been nothing more than a casual second hang with @jlaurendeau in February turned into so much more because of this flower. I was driving to him in my sister’s car after her Oath ceremony, and her car was full of flowers. I half-jokingly, half-romantically decided to steal one to offer it to him.
To my delight, he received the flower exactly as I intended - with an equal amount of humor and longing for something more.
What unfolded was the most colorful year of my life, and a partner I love with all my heart. Someone that’s reignited my hopes, my dreams, and made them so much more specific. I love you Jérôme.
I guess the lesson here is to never feel the need to make yourself smaller for anyone. You are not too romantic or too goofy or too anything. You’re perfectly who you are, and the right person and the right people will see you and complement you for exactly that.
My resolution for 2026 is to worry less, to lean in more, to be more present, to allow joy even in moments of uncertainty, and to continue building this crazy colorful life with this beautiful boy.
What a beautiful, heartwarming, inspiring experience this last month has been. We truly cannot wait to share this one with you.
