AMERICAN DREAM: a Portrait of America in Photographs
Today I formally announce the “launch” of my current photographic project…
In reality, this is something I have subconsciously been building toward and working on for some time now, but have finally worked up the courage to formalize it and share it with y’all.
Over the next 5 years, I intend to build a body of work that answers the question, “What does it mean to be human in America?”
This, I know, is a lofty project – I mean, who am I to set such strong photographic ambitions? And I must tell you, I have a bold vision for it all.
But I can promise you this: over the next half-decade-plus I will be working like hell to not only build this body of work, but to learn and develop in the process such that the project truly becomes a body of work worth sharing.
I appreciate all of the support I have gotten over the last two years since I have picked up a camera. I know it has probably seemed like an odd change of pace given my career and professional life, however I have found over the years that life is better when we learn to live (and embrace the tension that comes) with all of the things we need and love, and for me that has become not just my world in sports, but also my life behind the camera.
Special thanks to
@juankasfoto and
@bellpitkinart for providing guidance, and more importantly, being the first to repeat “American Dream” out loud back at me when I first proposed the idea on paper. You made it real. And, huge thanks to
@silverandcedar for constantly pushing me to progress (and for the portrait work for site and project materials). Now… let’s see if I can deliver!
