So very fortunate to have been able to spend some time exploring Japan on an impromptu end of year trip. Going into it, I wanted to make an effort to not spend all my time in the main cities and I managed to cover about 275 kilometers backpacking and cycling on trails including the Nakasendo, Shimanami Kaido, and Kumano Kodo. So many days were spent not knowing exactly what I would see or experience and that led to some incredible memories.
I took plenty of film photos, but while I wait to get those developed, here's 20 of my favorite photos I took with my Sony A7 IV. Starting to learn a bit more about photography one picture at a time.
All I need is my friends and the incredible beauty of the natural world.
Film has slowed down recently, but here's 20 pics from the 3 rolls I've shot so far this year. I love film and I love Sake House Miro.
And finally the film photos. I went through 5 rolls of film during my recent trip, all different types. One each of Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Ultramax, Cinestill 800T, Fujifilm 400, and Kodak Gold. Overall, that's about 180 film shots, and these are 20 of my favorite captures.
I think I want to slow down a bit with the film, as the more pictures I've been taking, the less intentional of an approach I've been having. I want to consider shots more instead of just jumping at every opportunity to capture. Something like that.
Here's a potpourri of leftover film photos. Taken as far back as the beginning of the year and as recent as Sunday. These are all photos that never got their proper chance to shine. I just bought 5 new rolls to use up in the next month, so if I don't throw these out here now, they'll get lost in the cloud storage depths forever. Some really cool people and really beautiful places and really beautiful people and really cool places. I gotta slow down with all this film. Maybe at the start of next year.
That's all
Vansgiving 2025 on film
Pulled out the film camera a few times. Lots of wonderful people and smiles (including all the people I didn't manage to capture in photos). I guess I can only tag up to 20 people on an Instagram post?
Here's some moments on film from the past 2 weeks. Been feeling very full lately and so incredibly grateful for the people in my life. From my closest of friends, to those that I've shared a few interactions and everyone in-between, I've met so many wonderful people and you have all had an impact on my life. There is no better replacement for a shared laugh or smile.

A few weeks ago I finally purchased my first actual camera - a Sony a7iv
Even though I don't understand 99% of the capabilities of my new camera, it's been an absolute joy starting the journey towards a new outlet of creation. Thanks to everyone that's been super positive about it and all of those that have provided much needed tips and advice. I am still trying to keep a genuine balance between appreciating the moment and capturing it. Here's a few of my favorite photos from the first week and a half :)

No cool film shots or anything (film camera had to be put down RIP) but Jake took some awesome photos in Moab I couldn't help but share. Putting some respect on the thrift/hike combo😮💨

Had to split the photos between the vertical and horizontal photos I took. Vertical first. Met so many new and wonderful people as well as older friends. Explored lots of beautiful places and made some incredible memories. Horizontal next. Grateful for people and places.
