It’s hard to describe the pain and sadness I feel from this. We, the American people have spoken. It is a solemn choice to back hatred, division, misogyny, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, and so many other negative and backwards sentiments. This is not a step forward, this is a double-down on pushing women, immigrants, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, minorities, and middle-America, down in favor of those who are willing to lie, cheat, and steal their way to the top by any means necessary.
Also, I am sick and tired of seeing messages akin to “we’re all adults, let’s just get along and put politics aside.” I don’t just think you don’t understand the ramifications of this pile of human scum being elected as the most powerful person in the world, I know you don’t. The reason so many people are upset is not just because their candidate lost, it’s because empathy, understanding, love, compassion, science, and common sense have not prevailed today. We have proven over again that a convicted criminal, rapist, liar, thief, narcissist, insurrectionist, and downright asshole is better fit to run this country than a well-qualified, experienced, educated, and at the very least, competent Woman. This is one of the most consequential things to happen in American history, it is not making a mountain out of a mole hill. So if you see someone upset, maybe show a little empathy or kindness, we all know it’s in short supply these days.
Do better America, I am starting to lose faith that we have it in us.
There is beauty in the simplicity of the machine, the freedom it offers when you’re in the saddle, and in the adventures and landscapes it takes us on. There is something special about being on two wheels - being powered by your own legs and the resolve of your will. Cycling has become a part of my life that I hope to never relinquish, and hope to only appreciate and learn more about as I grow older. Here’s to many more (s)miles in 2024 and beyond ⛓️💥
