TEJAS by Neena Jayarajan FEB 12TH | 7:45PM FEB 14TH | 7:00PM FEB 15TH | 2:45PM Catch us at the Ripe Fruit Festival, happening at Video Cabaret. TEJAS- A Sanskrit word defined as brilliant, filled with fire, and intense power. Using the entirety of Bharatanatyam this work challenges the traditional aesthetic and perspectives of the technique, while also honouring its complexity. With care for the form and each other arises a storytelling journey where tradition meets the contemporary ultimately finding community. A work rooted in deep respect for the classical tradition, with reinterpretation of vocabulary, displacement of context and shifting presentation norms, all while evolving its boundaries. Tejas is storytelling, Community, and connection, in dynamic conversation. Aiming to isolate and elevate gesture, rhythm, emotion, and technique, revealing its full expressive range. Choreographer: Neena Jayarajan Music Composer: Ed Hanley Outside Eye:Geneviève Beth Grady, Purawai Vyas, Arrthami Siva- Kuruvinth Creative Collaborator: Anisa Tejpar Dancers: Atri Nundy, Rachana Joshi, Nivedha Ramalingam, Nidhi Baadkar & Neena Jayarajan Trailer shot and edited by: Alli Carry Music Composer: Ed Hanley

January 22 👑 I’m so excited to share that Rachana (@rxchjoshi ) of @kaladancecollective is hosting a truly unique event that brings together Indian classical and other art forms, rooted in the joy of experimentation and play. Rachana’s passion is deeply inspiring. Her first curation of this experience left me wanting so much more, and I already know this night will be unforgettable. This space is open to artists of all music and dance skill levels — the heart of the evening is collaboration, curiosity, and discovery. We come from such a rich South Asian and Indian diasporic artistic lineage of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Carnatic music, Hindustani music, and so much more, and this night is about letting those forms meet, bend, and evolve together. Her board including myself, Nash, @petit_mouster , and @its_miss_masala has been honoured to support Rachana in bringing something truly special to life. We’re dancers of varying levels, some of us singers too, and we’ll all be there, learning and creating together. Come as you are. Come to explore. 💛

Please welcome Rachana to our roster 🎉 Rachana teaches Bharatanatyam, Bollywood and Kirby. Rachana Joshi is a dance artist and educator based in Tkaronto with over 20 years of training in Bharatanatyam under the mentorship of Lata Pada (CM). Following her arangetram in 2017, she joined Sampradaya Dance Academy as a teacher, guiding students through the technical and expressive depths of the form. As Artistic Director of Kala Dance Collective, Rachana launched Prep + Practice, a free community training initiative supporting Toronto-based Bharatanatyam dancers. Her teaching is informed by her diverse training, including modern techniques from York University’s BFA Dance program and by training, mentorship and workshops with artists such as Nova Bhattacharya, Seeta Patel, Atri Nundy and Priyadarshini Govind. #teachers #elementaryschool #bharathanatyamdancer #danceforkids
