We had the pleasure of welcoming a high-level Brazilian delegation for Science, Technology and Innovation at the Chair of Digital Additive Production (DAP), RWTH Aachen University. The visit brought together representatives from leading Brazilian institutions, including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), research centers, and innovation agencies, further strengthening the growing partnership between Brazil and Germany in advanced manufacturing and digital technologies. At DAP, we are committed to fostering international collaboration by connecting cutting-edge research with industrial applications — from data-driven design and AI-enhanced simulation to digital production. This exchange highlighted a shared ambition to develop joint projects, deepen scientific cooperation, and accelerate innovation across both countries. One week ago – Girls’ Day at DAP ✨ “Magic of Materials: Your adventure into the world of additive manufacturing and metal wizardry” As part of Girls’ Day, we had the pleasure of welcoming schoolgirls to our chair last week. For one day, they explored the world of natural sciences and research as materials testers alongside our experts. After a short introduction and a lab tour, they gained insights into additive manufacturing and experienced hands-on tasks from the daily work in materials science. It was great to see their curiosity and enthusiasm – we hope to have sparked their interest in STEM!

Welcome to the #fAMily! Today, we're welcoming Akshay Kulkarni and Kilyan Emre Talhouet as Research Associates in our Industrial Metaverse (IM) group. Akshay holds an M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from Technische Universität München. His Focus at DAP will be additive manufacturing of metallic materials, particularly in laser- and arc-based processes as well as in thermo-mechanical FEM simulation of manufacturing processes. Kilyan holds an M.Sc. in Automotive Engineering from RWTH Aachen University. He previously gained industry experience as a mechanical engineer at Renault and has spent the last three years as a student assistant at DAP, focusing on his future field of work: virtual reality and haptics. Welcome to the #fAMily! Today ,we’re welcoming Elias Dreckmann as a Research Associate in our Data Driven Design (DDD) group. Elias got a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Vehicle Technology & Transport from RWTH Aachen, bringing a strong foundation in product development. At DAP, he will further develop these competencies in the field of Design Automation and contribute to the development and optimization of automated engineering processes. Great to have you on board! Congratulations on passing your final exam, Clara! We warmly congratulate Clara on successfully completing her final exam as a Materials Tester with a specialization in Metal Technology. After 3.5 years of training, Clara successfully mastered all parts of the examination and convincingly demonstrated her expertise in both the written and practical exams. We are especially proud that Clara is the first Materials Tester in Metal Technology who completed her apprenticeship at DAP. We are happy that Clara will continue to be part of the DAP #fAMily and support us as a technical specialist. Congratulations on this great achievement, Clara. We are proud of you!👏

"Why?!" ...a question that follows Marie-Noemi Bold in two worlds: in the lab, where she researches LMD processes and studies materials for Additive Manufacturing – and at home, where young explorers ask her the very same questions. Marie has been part of the Digital Additive Production DAP - RWTH Aachen since 2018 and is an expert in (Extreme High-Speed) Laser Material Deposition (LMD / EHLA). In her PhD, she investigates how alloy composition, microstructure, and hardness can be influenced within the EHLA process – with the goal of developing new powder materials for Additive Manufacturing. What fascinates her most about Additive Manufacturing? That extreme process conditions can lead to extraordinary effects in metallic materials – and that she can apply her knowledge in materials science directly to process development. Marie shows that mechanical engineering isn’t a question of gender but of curiosity, the courage to ask “why,” and the persistence to find the answers.
