In her remarks, the Minister of State for Education Claudette Irere reaffirmed the important role of education in building a peaceful, united, and resilient Rwanda.
“We believe that education remains one of the most powerful tools for national transformation. It is not only about academic excellence, but also about shaping values, attitudes, and behaviors that nurture ethical, resilient, and responsible citizens.”

In her remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of linking technical education with practical industry needs.
“Our TVET system is not merely producing graduates; it is actively engineering solutions to the operational bottlenecks that hinder our national productivity,” she noted.
She added that the hackathon demonstrates that Rwanda’s graduands are “not just job seekers, but solution providers already vetted by the private sector.”

During the 32nd commemoration of former staff of the Ministry of Education and its affiliated agencies who were killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, highlighted the critical role of education in shaping a nation, while also acknowledging how it was once misused.
He stated: “Education is a pillar of national development. However, history shows that it was once misused, where some educated individuals became planners of the Genocide. This calls on us to remain vigilant and ensure that genocide ideology never finds its way back into our education system.”
He also reflected on the harmful and discriminatory policies that excluded some Rwandans from education and employment, and contributed to the persecution of students and teachers.
“Today, Rwanda has established education for all, based on merit and knowledge. It is essential that we continue to safeguard this progress through unity and resilience,” he said.
