Masai Ujiri praised President Paul Kagame’s long-term vision for sports development, crediting Rwanda’s leadership for helping transform sport into a serious economic and social driver.
Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum 2026 in Kigali, the NBA executive highlighted how Rwanda has “set the tone” for sports infrastructure and investment on the continent through projects such as BK Arena and the wider Sports City vision.
“The real opportunity and the vision has come from President Kagame,” Ujiri said, while reflecting on Kagame’s early belief in sports as a tool for youth empowerment, business growth, and continental development.
Ujiri also described Rwanda’s model as “the template of what should be done on the continent,” pointing to the country’s growing sports ecosystem and long-term ambition.
Nigeria’s Immigration Service has now confirmed the updated travel measures affecting Rwandan travelers, marking an important moment in regional mobility and diplomatic relations between both countries.
The development reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen African connectivity, ease movement, and deepen partnerships across the continent through tourism, business, trade, and people-to-people exchange.
As Africa continues pushing toward greater integration, collaborations and policy shifts like these highlight the growing importance of intra-African relations and mobility.
Russia’s Rosatom says it has agreed with Rwanda on a nuclear power plant project, according to CEO Alexey Likhachev during a congress in Moscow. The project forms part of Rwanda’s long term energy development strategy.
SPIRO Wins “Local Impact Champion” Award at Africa CEO Forum 2026
SPIRO has been recognised at the Africa CEO Forum 2026 with the “Local Impact Champion” Award, highlighting the company’s growing role in transforming urban mobility across Africa.
The electric mobility company has deployed 80,000 electric motorbikes, established 2,500 battery swapping stations and completed more than 30 million battery swaps across its network.
According to the Africa CEO Forum, SPIRO’s model is helping boda boda and okada riders reduce fuel costs and improve daily earnings while accelerating low-carbon transport solutions across the continent.
The company also reports more than 1 billion kilometres of low-carbon travel and operates vehicle assembly plants in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria.
During a conversation with Nicolai Tangen on In Good Company, Africa’s richest industrialist highlighted Rwanda as one of the continent’s most promising investment destinations.
Dangote pointed to Africa’s future being driven by infrastructure, manufacturing, education, and strong private-sector investment, emphasizing that African investors must lead the continent’s transformation themselves.
Despite its size, Rwanda continues to gain global recognition for its stability, long-term vision, business environment, and growing role as a regional hub for innovation and investment.
At the Africa CEO Forum, President Paul Kagame delivered one of the strongest calls yet for African economic sovereignty.
He argued that the global system still allows powerful nations to decide who controls Africa’s resources, often under the language of democracy, sanctions, or international order.
But his message was not about victimhood.
It was about mindset.
For too long, Africa has negotiated from a position of weakness, accepting values set by others and remaining vulnerable to exploitation.
“We must be able to say no,” Kagame said.
He called on African leaders and businesses to define the value of their own assets, protect their interests, and stop confusing openness with surrender.
As debates around minerals, trade, sanctions, and resource control intensify worldwide, his remarks placed African ownership and self-determination at the center of the continent’s future.

Rwandan coffee exports to China also rose by 41%, reaching 248 tonnes this year.
China has now become Rwanda’s 3rd largest export market, helped by China’s zero-tariff access policy for African exports.
Rwanda’s Electronic Billing Machine (EBM) system is now being used or adopted beyond Rwanda, as several African countries integrate the technology into their tax systems.

According to the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), countries connected to the system include Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Chad, and Madagascar, while more than 30 countries have visited Rwanda to study how the technology works.
