Hey y’all. Its awards season, and its also « getting really chilly out » season, and I’ve been watching a lot movies lately. There are so many truly breathtaking films in circulation, many of them rightly getting recognized this week at the IDAs, the Gothams, NBR, and a bunch of other events and announcements. Shout out to QUEENDOM @igomyakotin , to SOUNDTRACK TO A COUP D'ETAT @remigrellety , to SUGARCANE, to the beautiful short INSTRUMENTS OF A BEATING HEART @emaexplorations , to UNION @brettpstory , to NICKEL BOYS (yeah I know it’s not a doc we’re allowed to watch other types of movies and it’s amazing…) and man, especially to the team from NO OTHER LAND. I sincerely hope the success and attention they and the UNION team are getting can lead to some wider distribution, these films could do some good in the world. Seek them out! If you want to join me in movie-watching this weekend, our own film YINTAH is playing to a full house tonight in New York at the New School’s Tichman Auditorium. DM me for tickets! Or watch it on Netflix. Find SUGARCANE on Nat Geo! Find some way to see THE FABULOUS GOLD HARVESTING MACHINE or NOCTURNES! I could go on… ‘‘tis the season. If you have a film playing out there in cinemas this weekend put it in the comments…

Hi friends! Checking in from a significant "life of the film" milestone moment, for our beloved "Yintah". And this one is a milestone for a whole bunch of reasons. It's the first indigenous-led Netflix Original Documentary ever. It also marks a notable and super cool collaboration between CBC and Netflix, which is enabling this important film to get some truly great audiences. And it's the first film made under the authority of Wet'suwet'en law, representing a level of integrated filmmaking that I've personally never experienced in however many years I've been doing stuff like this. So it's a really cool day, because a ton of new people will get to see this movie. I hope you're one of them! ❤️Bob

Last night I had the great pleasure of seeing Union Maids and The Last Truck at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, with Lyn Goldfard moderating a really sweet discussion with Miles Mogolescu and Steven Bognar around theirs and Julia Reichart’s work. And let me just say that the editing on Union Maids (1976) holds up as so razor sharp. It all just races along like a thriller! An absolute master class in pacing and energy.
