April is World Autism Month, and for the 4th year in a row, RVU–Utah proudly hosted the Walk with Autism 💙
What started as one mom’s mission to find better resources for her son has grown into a powerful community movement. Thanks to Kenzie Bien, this year’s event welcomed over 1,200 community members, 75 vendors, and 100 RVU students, staff, and faculty working together to support autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Match Day 2026 Spotlight: Christopher Perez
Christopher’s path to medicine wasn’t linear. After struggling in undergrad, he rebuilt his academic record, earned a spot in RVU’s MSBS program, and finished in the top 1–2% of his class. From mastering ultrasound skills to mentoring fellow military students, he found confidence and his calling along the way.
Now, as an Army HPSP student, he’s matched into a competitive general surgery residency in El Paso, motivated by the communities he’ll serve and the journey that shaped him.
"One day I’ll be able to walk into a room and fix the issue within a couple of hours, see the patient outpatient a few days later, and know they’re doing better because of an incision I made" he says.

The library on RVU’s Utah campus was recently dedicated as the Frank Ritchel Ames Memorial Library, honoring the life and legacy of Frank Ames—Director of the Library and Professor and Chair of Medical Informatics.
Though he is no longer with us, Frank’s impact continues to shape RVU’s mission, values, and academic foundation. As Dr. Brian Schwartz, PhD, MLIS, shared, “While Frank has passed away, his legacy echoes from the walls of buildings he never saw, on campuses he never conceived of. He helped set the course for our university, the tone for our core values, and the mission that guides who we are and who we will become.”
We are proud to honor a leader, educator, and visionary whose influence will continue to inspire generations of students and faculty.
