This month, we’re thrilled to highlight JWC Member Barvenia Wooten, Founder & CEO of the Richmond Roadrunners (
@rva.roadrunnerswb ), the only women’s professional basketball team in Virginia to last more than two years (and counting)! 🙌 🏀
A proud HBCU graduate of Virginia Union University, Barvenia earned a full basketball and academic scholarship before training with both the American Basketball League and the WNBA. In 2019, she turned her lifelong love of the game into purpose, launching the Richmond Roadrunners to help college women pursue their professional basketball dreams, gain exposure, and play in a competitive environment that showcases their skills to recruiters at home and overseas.
As the Roadrunners prepare to celebrate their 5th anniversary in November 2025, Barvenia continues to inspire through her unwavering commitment to helping women succeed on and off the court.
“Basketball has given me so much. It taught me lessons, opened doors, and connected me with incredible people. Helping the next generation of women athletes achieve their dreams is what keeps me going.”
Since founding the team, she’s helped more than ten women secure overseas contracts, proving that passion, purpose, and perseverance truly pay off.
👏🏾 Join us in celebrating Barvenia and the incredible legacy she’s building through the Richmond Roadrunners!
