'After' and 'Before' at Pondside 🌿
This remodel and addition added 14 feet to the existing 1980s home, connecting the kitchen to the living, dining, and backyard spaces. The stairs, immediately adjacent to the front entry, feature a powder-coated steel railing and tall wooden slats to highlight the verticality of the stairwell while offering a view of the kitchen.

Our Sandhill Residence is one of the projects in contention for the Exterior Architecture Category of @luxemagazine ’s RED Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
This modern home, inspired by mid-century design, is seamlessly integrated into the prairie landscape, balancing contemporary living with the natural environment. The simple forms create a modest, loft-like structure that sits gracefully on the sloping site, optimizing panoramic views while adhering to community development guidelines. The exterior combines resilient brick, corrugated metal, and cedar accents, reflecting the colors and textures of the surrounding land while also honoring its agricultural history. Architectural features such as clerestory windows, skylights, and expansive sliding glass doors blur the line between inside and outside, allowing natural light to flood the interior. The use of solar panels and durable, sustainable materials ensures long-term resilience while maintaining harmony with nature.

Pondside is now live on the website!
This remodel/addition was a tribute to Chris’s family history. His grandfather built the original home in the 1980s and after 44 years of living in the same place the homeowners had fallen in love with the adjacent pond and built lasting relationships with their neighbors. Wanting to stay in the home they loved, they came to us to design an addition/remodel that provides one level living and an increased connection to nature.
We were also honored to have Pondside featured on this year’s Homes by Architects Tour!

“While they love many elements of their new home, the clients enjoy most having ‘a home with the ultimate view,’ says Anderson. They find joy in being able to spot wildlife like Sandhill cranes and herons from their home – and even catch glimpses of the occasional hot air balloon. These moments of interaction with nature would not be possible without carefully-considered windows acting as apertures to the landscape. ‘Whether it was a specifically placed window to capture an amazing oak tree, or a bank of windows to capture the landscape of the savanna, the windows’ flexibility allowed us to highlight the surroundings in a meaningful and purposeful way,’ reflects Anderson.“
Sandhill Residence is selected as a “Standout Project” in the 2024 Bright Ideas Awards. Alongside @andersen_windows , the annual competition recognizes outstanding architectural projects that exhibit excellence in fenestration and daylighting.
