Well dang I finally did it. I finally recorded a song and decided it was “finished”. I finally decided to put my shit out there. You can listen to it anywhere you stream music I think…. I’m new to this part so not quite sure 🤷🏼♂️
But the songs called “Run” My friend got robbed, attacked by dogs and went on a bender when we were in Central America. We got in a physical fight after he went from being the most positive dude I know to an absolute dick so I left him on an island in the Caribbean after I had to slam him on the ground. We’d link up a few days later in Leon and reconcile. I wrote this song about it. Didn’t write the last verse for a few years until i saw that same friend keep going on benders and honestly had to distance myself. He quit the benders and we’re back to being good friends. I love you bro!! Proud of him and proud of myself for finally being vulnerable enough to share this song like 10 years later.

Tons of love - Jonny Rust
Tomorrow is my birthday and in this 33rd lap around the sun I had wanted to start finally sharing some songs I wrote. Unfortunately, Im the king of procrastination and this last year though filled with some amazing times was also full of a lot of changes and heaviness. One of my best friends started off the year going through a tragedy of losing his father suddenly, followed by being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing 3 months of chemo. This weighed on me. I bought a house 🙏🏻 but this house needs a lot of work and my days of keeping my overhead low, living in vans, boats and traveling the world whenever I wanted was over, for now. This accomplishment came at a time that my profession I had worked the last 15 years at had taken a major hit and work was scarce. This weighed on me. The war in the Middle East, Ukraine and the division happening in our country again weighed on me. It was one thing after the other. I even got sick, threw up and shit my pants once in public. Had to drive through Friday LA traffic with poop in my pants feeling awwwwfful. I mean what the fuck? I know Im not alone in that 24’ was tough. Then just to cap off my year, the LA fires and all the loss there.
It was a year of deep thought and growth. What’s important, who are your friends, what do you want and most importantly what is it we have?
Well with one day left of being 33 here is “Run”
I wrote this song after an insane trip to Central America where my new friend at the time got robbed, attacked by dogs, dropped off at a dangerous border crossing right around sun down with no way of getting anywhere, miraculously picked up by a man who gave him shelter and safety. Then he partied on a Caribbean island hard. Like too hard. This is when I decided I really never needed to do cocaine.
What a ride its been? Change is hard, life is heartbreaking but always shows us whats truly important. Love you all and thank you for being here with me.

Life moves fast, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily tasks that seem to never end and caught in the problems we face.
Easy to forget how far we’ve come, how much we’ve done and that amongst all the trials and tribulations there is still so much fun and goodness yet to be seen.
Sometimes it just takes one day of having nothing to do and layin around in the yard with someone you love to remember it all.
Love you and hope you get some time to slow down. I’ll be camping with some good people and celebrating all we’ve had to do to get to this point.
