Community project! This was such a cool build for a wonderful soul! Ren @rennrogers was gifted a board from the community and we got to build it just how she wanted it. She has supported so many people it was awesome to see the community share the stoke! The board she wanted is a 7’4” Hajimari that we tuned up just for her. It’s narrower and the rails are pinched down a bit so she can really push it when the waves turn on! Three color resin tint deck and we brought her son in to do some foot prints along with a custom graphic. I love it when a plan comes together! 🤙🏼 Almost every single part of this board is American made components. This is a big deal for me. @usblanks foam, @grepoxy for the epoxy and @futuresfins with fin boxes and leash plug. MADE IN THE USA WITH AMERICAN COMPONENTS 🇺🇸

Making something special for an amazing couple who are about to get married! John and Sarah are wonderful folks and I’m so happy for them! @john_david_mccray_3 @sarahclifford_ They asked for a board they could have their guest sign at the wedding and wanted it to be unique. I think we got it there! 5’5” Classic Fish. Hand foiled wood fins, triple stringer @usblanks with light powder blue resin tint for the win! This is what it’s all about!! So stoked 🤙🏼

I started surfing with @runyonsurf a few years ago thanks to @5surfers . It’s a great crew of vets who appreciate the empty lineup of Onslow Beach in winter. I’m a lousy surfer, like, three decades of minimal improvement lousy despite living and surfing in Australia, Hawaii, Florida, and North Carolina. That is relevant because Clint Runyon is super patient and super stoked to see someone else be. I rode his boards for a bit, he watched me surf, and taught me some simple things to be better. Then he made a board for my best friend to take on a six month surf trip. I did the art for that one and felt like I had to have a Runyon because I like meaningful things that work, like Randall and @les_george knives, old shotguns, and Toyota pickups. I also love labradors, and though I didn’t have a good enough picture of Jed (another thing that works thanks to @billmattes ), I found an award winning photo by @oddlimbs and cold called him for permission to put it on a custom made surfboard. I asked Clint to put duck hunter camo on the rails as an homage to waterfowling and my time as a @us_marsoc Raider. The red pinstripe is a bit of love to both Georgia red clay and @tombeckbe , another creator of functional art that works and lasts. I don’t surf well enough to own this board, but it gives me something to shoot for and I like art that also works. I decided to challenge Clint as an artist, and he came through in spades. Things that matter don’t come easy, and in a disposable world they shouldn’t. I humbly ask those of you that surf to ask Clint for your own piece of functional art. If you need help designing a board to bring together the things that matter to you, holler at me.

Matching surfers and their personalities in a surfboard. What a cool opportunity! My dear friend @worth.parker brought me a hunting dog, outdoor themed idea with his favorite camo and we dove in. This one is truly special. Worth spent a ton of time with me here at the shop working on the board and concept. Final dims- 8’7”x22”x3” the GG model, easy to ride and a wave catching machine. Worth will definitely take this to hunt for waves in the near future! @bassproshops might want a few of these!! 🤣 Always handmade start to finish right here in North Carolina!

What an epic adventure with the kids at @hollysheltermiddle I had so much fun. Mr Stanek reached out and set it all up, brought the kids up to the shop with parents and we spent two weekends making this wonderful board with the school motto on it- “We Are The Storm”. This last Friday I got to go to the school to deliver the board, chat with the teachers and students and help install the board in its home in the cafeteria for the whole student body to see. My stoke meter is high! Next gen rippers! Thank you Holy Shelters, and thank you Mr. Stanek. What a treat. If the kids got even a fraction of the stoke I got from the process then it was truly a success 🤙🏼

The perfect combo! Hand foiled wood fins and a classic 5’5” Fish. I love making it all start to finish even though I don’t get to do it very often. These wood fins complement the triple stringer fish so well. Always handmade right here in North Carolina.

Make your own stuff kids! My froth level (and coffee consumption) are extremely high! I am hand foiling a set of my performance keel template for a stunning little 5’5” fish. I love these projects. Time and attention to detail makes all the difference. We have the ability to make our own stuff…. Even though it’s easier to just buy it from someone else sometimes! Ha ha. Making these for this board has really got me stoked today and I just wanted to share 🤙🏼 #buildityourself

The cool thing, for me, about making surfboards is that each board is its own little adventure. When I meet and chat with folks that are excited about a custom board, it gives me an opportunity to really lean in and help them solve a problem. Making boards by hand gives me an opportunity to completely customize and tailor the design to suit the rider… and honestly that’s what a good shaper brings to the table (in my opinion). I spend a lot of time with my customer, talking and listening, reading the tea leaves so to speak. It’s my goal to get them where they want to go with their surfing. It’s not a perfect science by any means. I guess the bottom line is- Each surfer is unique and their surfboards should be as well. That’s what gets me stoked, and why I keep building boards. I couldn’t care less about pumping out boards or producing large numbers. That feels both irresponsible and disrespectful to the craft… but that’s just my opinion! I’m sure their are some very large companies pumping out thousands of boards that would disagree 😂 I’d rather make far fewer custom boards, meet real people, and help them solve their surfboard problems one at a time. Anyway… rant over!

I’ve been thinking about real hand made stuff a lot lately. With everyone going full Ai and not being able to tell what is real on the internet anymore, I really cherish being able to make things with my hands. I’ve been building surfboards for almost 25 years now and I’m still learning. The goal, for me, is not a perfect surfboard, but rather the pursuit of the best possible board I can build today. I cherish things that are still made by hand. I hope we don’t lose sight of our God given talents and there is a resurgence of craftsmanship in our country 🤙🏼

Summer is quickly approaching! You need a super fun board for our east coast beach break? The PodRacer is the magic! This one is 5’6”x 20.75” x 2.5” with pinched down rails. A super fun little PodRacer for my brother Mo @maurizio_pascual5 down in Florida. He specifically wanted a clear glass job. I used a @usblanks with dark wood stringer. Loving the clean vibe of this one!
