Team Every Mother Counts

After a year pause, we were thrilled to be back on the California Coast for the Big Sur International Marathon. This past Sunday, 33 runners crossed the finish line of the Marathon and 11-miler and spirits were high! We had mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, friends, colleagues, alumni and first time runners- all of whom came together to build an incredible Team and collectively raise over $60,000 for @everymomcounts . Congratulations to our 130th Boston Marathon finishers- Heather, Lital and Judy! They trained, they ran, they conquered 26.2 miles and crossed the finish line on Boylston Street this past Monday. In her words… “It feels incredibly meaningful to be part of the @everymomcounts team for the @teambsmf race this Sunday. Growing up, I cheered on my grandmother and my mom as they supported women’s causes through fundraisers like this. Now, getting to do this alongside my mom feels especially full circle. As a birth doula, Every Mother Counts has been close to my heart for a long time. I deeply admire their work to ensure safe, respectful maternity care for all. There is always more to be done, and organizations like this are what move that work forward. It means a lot to be able to help shine a light on this. My Mom and I will be running the 11-miler together, and I’m so excited to honor our maternal lineage and the community around us in this way. We feel so proud, so energized, and so ready. In her words- “I heard about @everymomcounts through a friend who ran @teambsmf a few years ago, and feel so connected to the Every Mother Counts mission to support access to maternal healthcare on an international scale. I currently work for an organization that provides prenatal care for marginalized populations in California, which has allowed me to witness the effects of equitable access to antenatal care on maternal and fetal health outcomes. We are thrilled to introduce you to Adrian, a longtime runner, teammate and EMC supporter. In his words- “In 2015, I needed a bib to run the NYC Half Marathon with my son, so I decided to run and fundraise for @everymomcounts . I was drawn to their urgent mission to ensure safe, equitable maternal care, and believed that even small donations could have real, immediate impact. The solutions to prevent most maternal deaths are known, and health systems can be improved to provide positive, respectful care. Getting to know the remarkable people behind the organization and their work inspired me to become a regular supporter and fundraiser. Wearing the Team EMC singlet during a marathon became my superpower—hearing cheers of support and thinking about the hardships many birthing people face pushed me through the toughest miles. I went on to complete 15 marathons representing #TeamEMC and it’s probably one of the main reasons I’m still running marathons.“ We are excited to have you join us once again Adrian, and we’ll be cheering you on across all the miles. We are still processing the emotions, and sorting through the photos, but an important #teammatetuesday shout out to our @nycmarathon team! 100 #teamemc runners toed the line this past Sunday and made their way through the five boroughs to become NYC Marathon Finishers! Students, coaches, teachers, nurses, doctors, realtors, bankers, midwives, lawyers, moms, dads, and more. They’ve shared their WHY and inspired not only all of us but their own families and communities. Thank you Team for coming alongside us and raising over $420,000 for @everymomcounts .
