Let this be your reminder that you can sign up for races with your besties just for the fun of it ā¤ļø No pace checking. No Strava time versus chip time. No obsessing over splits. I think social media has massively blurred the line between being disciplined… and simply ignoring your body. Yes, consistency matters. But constantly feeling exhausted, run down or like your body is screaming at you to stop is not something to glorify. Time and time again I’m seeing runners end up injured, burnt out or with REDs because they think ā€œpushing throughā€ is the only way to succeed. Real discipline is thinking long term. Not just proving how much suffering you can tolerate ā¤ļø #runner #run #running #physio #injury

Your cycle can give you useful information about your training… but it shouldn’t dictate your training 🩸 Some women notice changes in energy, recovery or performance across their cycle. Others barely notice anything at all. The key is learning your own patterns rather than forcing yourself into rigid ā€œcycle syncingā€ rules. Train with flexibility, fuel properly, recover well and work with your body instead of against it ā¤ļø #physio #running #runner #girlswhorun #run

I’m seeing a bit of a pattern in the running space where people are jumping from event to event … especially people who are new to running. So here’s a few little reminders for you all to just slow down a bit and enjoy the journey. Your body will thank you for it šŸ«¶šŸ¼ #run #runner #running #physio #runnersofinstagram

Much needed head space ā¤ļøšŸ”ļøšŸ‡ØšŸ‡ The first trimester has been hard. I’ve really struggled with constant nausea (the term ā€œmorning sicknessā€ needs to get in the bin) and fatigue. You hear about it all the time, but until it happens to you, you don’t fully understand how hard it is. Exercise was almost completely off the cards… I managed maybe four runs and a handful of gym sessions. Which made me feel even less like myself. On top of that, no one knows why you feel so ill. You feel like you’re lying to the world, but you’re too scared to say the real reason until you get to that 12 week scan. And then your body has already started changing… none of your clothes fit. Which is hard. You know it’s happening for an amazing reason, but that doesn’t always change how it feels. So for me, this trip could not have come at a better time. It’s like my body gave me a week off. The sickness and fatigue improved so much, and I was finally able to enjoy what I love most… being in nature and the mountains. To anyone else going through the first trimester and struggling… I promise there’s a light at the end of the tunnel ā¤ļø #running #pregnancy #run #trailrun #runner

Is your recovery day ACTUALLY a day of adaptation… or just more load? As that could be why you’re getting injured or not progressing! #physio #run #runner #running #ultrarunning

So happy I can finally spill the beans on the news… I’m pregnant! You might have noticed that since the Arc my exercise and adventures have dropped off a cliff. Let’s just say the first trimester was not the most fun period of my life 🤣 But just like this song says, I’m finally back to loving life again and this last weekend in Switzerland I felt like me 🄰 I’m obviously hoping to run for as long as I can, but I’m definitely not going to be pushing it. And if running takes a back seat for a while, I think hiking might have to become my new personality instead 🄾 I know this is going to be a huge change, which is both terrifying and massively exciting. So here’s to the next chapter and all the adventures that follow šŸ”ļøā¤ļøšŸ¼

A lot of people have asked if I’ll be at the London Marathon this weekend… and truthfully, I was meant to be there working. But life has felt a lot recently, and I knew another weekend of pushing through would have taken more than it gave. So this time, I chose me. ā¤ļø Sometimes the strongest decision isn’t saying yes to every opportunity, it’s knowing when to pause, protect your energy, and trust that rest has value too. Wishing every single person running the very best of luck. I’ll be cheering you on from the mountains. šŸ”ļø #physio #run #running #hiking #trails

Ever racked up 20,000 steps the day before a race because of bib collection and your ā€œshake outā€ run … well I’m officially giving you permission to not to do one! Sorry brands I love you but it’s time to mix things up! ā¤ļø #run #runner #running #marathon #physio

So you’ve just finished your marathon… now it’s time to recover, right? Well time and time again, when it comes to recovery, I see people focusing on the things that don’t actually help (aka foam rollers, massage guns, ice baths… and thinking they’ve nailed it!). Now when I’m talking about recovery… I’m talking about it on a cellular level. Not just the ā€œoh my legs don’t hurt walking down the stairs anymoreā€ kind of recovery. I mean the kind of recovery that keeps you healthy and reduces your chance of injury. Things like: šŸ¤’ Immune system recovery ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ Hormonal rebalancing šŸ Replenishment of glycogen stores 🦓 Bone remodelling A lot of these things you won’t necessarily feel improving, but signs can include: āš”ļøImproved energy levels (you start to feel like yourself again) 😓 Better sleep (because this is often poor initially) 🤤 Reduced hunger cues (because the week after a marathon you may want to eat everything in sight) And I’m sorry to say it… but going out for a run is going to slow down recovery, not improve it āŒ. Because running, no matter how short, how slow, or how many walk breaks you take, causes MORE micro-damage to bones and muscles and uses up MORE glycogen… neither of which is helpful when your body is trying to repair itself. So my advice? Take two weeks off running and just soak in the fact that YOU JUST RAN A FREAKIN’ MARATHON. Running isn’t going anywhere. But your health could šŸ«¶šŸ¼. For specific advise on fuelling after a marathon, make sure to follow @r_mcgregor and @siansecc … not Joe Wicks! #physio #running #runner #marathon #run
