Sharing time! One of my favorite parts of the AsAm Voices retreat is sharing time. I got to read the very early pages of my second book (first 3 chapters written that weekend!), a horror novel, which is quite a departure from my first (as yet unpublished) novel in verse. But then got to hear from @choi_meets_world and his soon-to-be published graphic novel (that made me laugh and cry), the published @latruecrime reading from her yet unpublished YA horror, and Chu’s yet unpublished picture book. Love the range of materials and career stages. And it’s such a supportive and loving community. 🥹🥹🥹 #writersofinstagram #kidlitwriter #AsianAmAF #aapiheritagemonth
Look at what I came home to yesterday! My daughter crocheted this for me for Mother’s Day, and it’s so cute I want to scream 😂 My son didn’t even greet me 🙄 Thank goodness for daughters 😅😅😅
I left the Asian American Voices retreat at @boydsmills with the message of “open.” I went in with an open mind and heart, met so many new friends, renewed other friendships, explored some new writing, and had such an immensely moving, powerful, and soul-filling time. This was exactly what I needed after a hard year and such a good way to transition towards some new beginnings. Love these people and this place.
