Today was the first day that felt like summer! The project for this summer will be restoring the forest as much as possible. Construction definitely took a toll but we’re working on helping nature reclaim as much as possible! Regrowing moss, blueberries, and hopefully some bigger trees like rowans and birch trees. 🌲 No garden but a forest like it was when we moved in.
Two squirrel babies fell out of their nest. The mom had built a nest under the roof of our aframe and while she was out foraging we noticed one of the babies fell out. 🐿️😭
When we caught him and brought him back up to his nest he fell out again and brought his brother with him. The fall looks kind of brutal and painful but they seemed totally okay.
On our second attempt to pick the baby up he started squeaking and within seconds the mom showed to protect her kids. The mom was so stressed but also seemed unable to lift the young ones up to the nest. It was sad and heartbreaking to see how helpless the mom felt. But after all we managed to get the squirrels back in their nest, and left a tree out so they can learn how to climb. #wintercabinliving #wildlife #cuteanimals #cozycabin #animalrescue
