located deep in jiangxi province lies a thoughtfully designed tribute to the region’s history of mountain cultivation and reclusive scholars. a place shaped by taoist legend and carved into impossible terrain.
wangxian (望仙) means “gazing at immortals,”draws from taoist lore. villages here were traditionally built along cliffs not only for protection, but to exist “closer” to the spiritual forces thought to inhabit the mountains.
walking through the valley after the village caught ablaze two days prior was a reminder of how fragile yet resilient these places are. albeit a modern recreation, it reflects traditions that have endured floods, fires, and centuries of change.
despite it all, wangxian valley remains undeniably beautiful.

i’m not afraid of much, but i’d be lying if i said that the stigma around solo female travellers didn’t affect me at all. for many women, the appeal of travel lies in the freedom to finally say “yes” in a world when we are often told “no.” and yet in the face of this opportunity, we are still presented with reasons not to get our passports stamped.
without fear, there isn’t a reason to be brave. there is a need to create space for the stories we tell about women traveling to be multi-dimensional rather than one-sided. otherwise, we’ll miss out on the opportunity to truly experience autonomy as we move through the world. women aren’t going to stop traveling anytime soon, nor should we. but it’s worth contemplating the stories we tell ourselves when we are about to make the leap. we should continually strive to be challenged, to seek discomfort and live outside our comfort zone.
this is dedicated to the girls i’ve travelled with, met on the road and ones who continue to defy expectation no matter the circumstance. cheers to you 🤠🌺🤍
