A Game of Cat and Witch by Ruby Rune.
I have been following Ruby's bookstagram for years and it feels like a full circle moment, getting an early eARC of her book and now getting to shower her with my love and review it.
Ruby! Congratulations my unhinged beauty! This book was hilarious, at times I felt like I was in The Office looking towards the camera like, "did you see this?" Going purely off vibes... the vibes were immaculate! This was my first shifter romance!
The book draws you in immediately. You have a witch who has 48 hours to summon a familiar in order to continue her education, desperate times call for desperate measures and ya girl does a blood summoning which leads her to bind to a living breathing cat shifter. Chaos begins.
I loved both characters and I loved how modern everything was. Avery our main character is just an ordinary witch who loves reality TV and reading shifter smut, who dreams include and are not limited to leaving her island and trying some damn chicken nuggets and let's be honest thats relatable af! Felix is Felix, I have never met a shadow wielder that I didn't like.

Review: This took me a minute to get into, but once you’re in…you’re in. I loved the banter and witty comebacks that Felix has with Avery. Literally I was laughing out loud. Avery wants to please everyone and be the perfect person in the eyes of her mom but when she can’t summon a familiar, she takes to other measures. She gets…a cat..Felix. What unravels from there is a great tell of secrets coming to light and falling in love with your mate.

A Game Of Cat And Witch by Ruby Rune
A Game of Cat and Witch was such a ridiculously fun time. Think dark academia vibes, chaotic magic, enemies-to-lovers tension, forced proximity, and a literal black cat shifter MMC… honestly, what more could I want? 🖤
Avery is a struggling witch on the verge of losing her magic when one desperate spell to find a familiar goes VERY wrong and accidentally binds her to Felix - an angry, sarcastic cat shifter who absolutely does not want to be there. Their banter was hilarious, the chemistry was intense, and I loved how their relationship slowly shifted from “I want to murder you” to “I would burn the world for you.” 😂
Felix completely stole the show for me. He’s grumpy, protective, chaotic, and somehow manages to feel both terrifying and oddly adorable at the same time. The cat-like behaviour throughout the book was honestly one of my favourite parts. Add in magical riddles, academy drama, shadow powers, spicy romance, and a cast of quirky side characters, and I was fully entertained from start to finish.
If you love paranormal romance, witchy books, fated mates, humour, and tension-filled romantasy with spice, this one is worth adding to your TBR. 🐾✨

A Game of Cat and Witch was exactly the kind of read I needed lately.
Fun, light, witchy, and incredibly easy to settle into.
It felt familiar in a really comforting way without losing the chaos and charm that made it addictive to keep picking back up.
The writing style especially made this one feel very easy to fall into, and the banter carried so much of the fun for me.
Not every book needs to be emotionally devastating or wildly unpredictable.
Some books are just fun to read.

1. The Exception to The Rule = The balanced bite. A quick & easy read that will leave you wanting more!
2. The Score = The salty bite. You're salty that they changed so much of the plot of The Deal in the TV show, but you loved the Allie & Dean crossover that you now want to dive into their story.
3. Morning Glory Milking Farm = The Unhinged bite where you end up also biting into corners 2 & 4 at the same time... Monster milking, need I say more???
4. A Game of Cat and Witch = The dark choccy bite. You took one look at this bite and immediately thought dark fantasy romance.
5. Broken Dove = The I need more bite. Silver Elite left you on a cliff hanger and you need to start the next book IMMEDIATELY!!
