At the beginning of 2022 I wanted to introduce conditioning back into my training - so I set myself the goal of running a 10km.
I did not achieve this goal...(I actually dont think I even went running once 😂)
But I did achieve something so so so so much bigger 🙏
• I joined a rowing team
• I made amazing friends 💙💛💙💛
• I now row > 10km every week within my training
• I have fun doing conditioning
• I get to spend hours in the sun, at the beach with great company
• I'm more conditioned than I have been in years (or maybe ever)
• I am also learning to swim and overcoming a lifelong anxiety of the water
This all brings me a lot of joy
Here's to setting goals, and achieveing things way beyond just ticking the boxes ✔️✔️

“GIVE ME PRESS BILLIE” 😤😤
The row home on our first heat win on the weekend 😁 Ended up second overall by one point 🥹
Very fun first carnival with the @williamstownboaties ⚡️
Big weekend in Port Campbell with the team ❤️❤️
Was a great experience being on the sidelines for my first surf boat carnival.
Feeling very proud of my team and verrrrry keen to get in the boat next comp 👊👊
Cannot wait for the season ahead - Go Wagtailsssss 💙💛💙💛

Absolutely amazing day spent racing at the first surfboat carnival as a Wagtail for Williamstown SLSC on Saturday at Port Campbell.
This sport challenges me so much from not only a physical perspective but a massive mental challenge.
But I get to do it all with a beautiful group of people. Honestly couldn’t ask for a better community to be a part of.
Grateful I get to share this with @nathanwaddell_ even if with you yelling at me 😂🥰
Heart is full, body is sore. Going to bed earlier than normal 😴✌🏼
Great first carnival with the Wagtails and the other from team Williamstown at Port Campbell. My throats a bit harsh from barking but my heart is very full. Looking forward to having all our crews on the water in the weeks ahead 💙💛
Such a fun weekend of rowing 😁
- Friday night sleep over with the team; John Paul made us all dinner 🥰
- We all shared breaky and coffee together on race day morning which was so nice 🥰🥰
- John Paul and I delivered a strength training workshop to the boatie crews at Port Campbell. I really loved this. It’s nice to have a skill set that we can share to teams and communities that can seriously benefit from it.
- Race day was fun as fuck. Our first race for @williamstownboaties and as a crew together. 2x second places, 2x first places across four heats. We’re still a new/beginner crew but it’s cool to see our efforts paying off. We’ve improved a lot.
It’s only in the last 1-2 years that I’ve actually come to enjoy living in Melbourne (for reference, I’ve been here over six years). Boating and reconnecting with the ocean has been almost entirely responsible for that shift.
Thank you @nathanwaddell_ for sharing your passion with us and for so generously giving us so much of your time, skill set, effort and energy.
I asked the team yesterday what their favourite part of the preceding 24h was — it was about 50/50 sharing breaky with our little boatie family + the feeling of euphoria rolling in in the boat after our first heat win of the day 🏆⚡️
I love this team. I love this sport. I fucking love the ocean. One big ol’ 12 month off season coming up + already yearning for this feeling again 🌊
Me, every time I step on the beach / sit in the ocean / catch the view of Melbourne CBD from the bay 🌞
Things that ease anxiety for me:
- The ocean
- Kittens
- Walks with friends
- The night sky
- Yoga
- Sports that require so much cognitive engagement from me, that I cannot afford to think of anything else while I am engaged with them, or else risk serious injury or getting dunked in the bay in the middle of a Melbourne winter, thereby demanding me to be completely attentive and for just one moment, cease thinking about every possible way I can ruin my life with the very next action I take.
