Some moments of creative connection that I've experienced recently The exhibition at the whitworth with my dad Fabric spray painting with @sambarrrr and @unlikelysmoggie A catch up with old friends in the afflecks anime café captured by Ysé while @maxi_miles Mochi and I reconnected A piece of artwork that encaptivated me enough to want to buy it by @harryfrost A cunty pigeon When you got close to this blue painting you could read that she had written in big bold black letters "I'M GLAD I DIDN'T DIE", I relate The dried flower sconces were ominous and nostalgic Got to see the famous Hokusai print of the The Great Wave off Kanagawa in @whitworthart I liked this print of people running through rain sheltering under their Sugegasa. It reminded me of being caught in rainstorms in Vietnam, the torrential monsoon rainstorms during a hike through Nepal and the sensation of warm rain on my skin. Both stressful and soothing. The results of my exercise in letting go at @dariaa.pro move and draw workshop in collaboration with @dipactmcr @factory_international Got to see the @plastic_shed bottle cap mural in Stockport on my way to buy frames from an antique charity shop Impulsively went to see @ashgavs perform live in Manchester for the second time. Her latest stand up set hit topics of gender discovery and dysphoria as a masc lesbian going through fertility treatment and it was refreshing to see and funny to hear about her experience I couldn't help but feel the jingle jangle noise that the dress made out of tags would make if you bounced while wearing it. That's a sensory good noise in my imagination @laurenchapmanart pulled off a weird and wonderful exhibition @seesawspace . The goat and skull playing chess were a painting in real life when the artists activated this installation. The joy in this frogs movements during @ruby_tingle set were a highlight for me. I adore the new street art popping up near me

Art Spotlight winner! ‘Mussels from the Esk’ by Ruby Tingle (@ruby_tingle ) “This work stands out for its fantastical blend of natural materials and mythical subject matter, placing it between the tactile, physical world and an ephemeral dreamscape. It feels especially relevant at this time of year, as the clocks move forward and we enter into spring (although spring in Manchester might be a little optimistic…) I’ve always been drawn to magic and fantasy. ‘Mussels from the Esk’ blends contemporary collage with folklore, myth, and the forces of nature. It successfully harnesses the energy and softness of wind through the movement of fabric, set in tension against the grounded, weighted figure in red. There is a compelling ambiguity in what the figure holds: an object emitting a bluish-green glow. Is it the essence of life, or some alchemical force capable of restoring balance to nature? From the title we must assume it is a mussel - although it seems no ordinary mollusc. The work resists easy interpretation and invites the imagination to wander in a realm of fantasy. I love this kind of work that leaves you in suspense. Rather than giving everything away at once, the artist asks you to stay with the image while it slowly unfolds. With no face visible, the figure appears neither wholly benevolent nor evil, standing on the far edge of a shifting liminal space. It makes me wonder whether our attraction to the magical and fantastical stems from a desire to reclaim a sense of agency in a contemporary culture that often feels disempowering. Folklore and fantasy invite us to reflect on the reality of our time: secularity, digitisation and commodification. Perhaps magic and myth are most compelling, and most empowering, in times of collective powerlessness and disconnection.” - @rebeccagarrard8 Selected by the 1838 Collective team. Just back from an excellent event, The Spirit of Radcliffe - organised by @two_crows_studios - at Radcliffe Tower and the Parish church of St Mary. Highlights included: *A "Horrible History" talk *Re-exploring the 12th century church (I was there quite often as a child) which is bigger and brighter than I remember *A sketching walk *Some lovely time spent chatting with my friend, Revd @marie_pattison , which even involved finding a long-lost, unmarked family grave *A beautiful finale by @ruby_tingle All in all, a rather nice afternoon
