Second half of 2025 dump!
I got to do so much this year. It's crazy how much I got to expand my ability to help others and work with my community. I was carried by so many people, and this year deeply solidified the idea in my head that consistent effort for others and kindness unasked for is the only way we can survive.
I'm moving out of state soon for my dream job, and I hope it all works out. Maybe it won't! But if it does, I won't be back here for a very long time. That's terrifying and deeply sad for me.
I've only ever lived in Columbus. The physical places itself allow me to reconnect with parts of me that I'm afraid will be left behind when I go. And the people here have entirely made me who I am. I wont be able to see them regularly now. You have no idea how many ttrpg campaigns I'll have to play digitally now. God. 💔
But I've talked with a lot of people in the last few weeks, and everyone has reassured me that the person I am now will serve me well wherever I go, and I can take what I've learned with me into the next phase of my life.
2025 was an astounding year. I'm so proud of myself and the people I'm close to. I don't know what's coming next, but I've prepared as best I can.
I can only hope now that those efforts are returned, and that the next chapter of my life is just as successful and beautiful.
I'm going to miss everyone. That's really my primary takeaway. I was made the person I am this year by the people I helped and the people that helped me, and I won't be near them anymore. I'm going to miss everyone.
The idea that the place 12 year old Ruby existed in will no longer be within 50 miles of me is so gut wrenching. It's like I'm leaving all of him behind.
I'm so excited for the rest of my life. And I know it's all going to work out, even if my career in NM doesn't work out.
But the concept of me, at age 21, moving across the country for work, and me, age 12, still in the woods outside the Xenos building he escaped from, gazing up at the stars through the trees; he's still there.
No matter where I go, he's still going to be there.
I'll make some art about that after I move, I think.

Organized in conjunction with Trans Experimental Action, with help from the Ohio Clean Air Coalition, happening (DATE TBD) 5 till 7pm, at Flux and Flow Dance Studio at 200 Crestview Road, Columbus, OH, 43202,
this event is meant to be reoccurring and raise money for homeless trans people in central Ohio!
Entry for fighters and audience is 5$, but you can donate as much more as you like! Donations should be sent to the attached Chuffed Campaign link, remember to screenshot or save proof of donation!

Masks will be required and provided. Air purifiers have been rented for the space, which has been made to be as wheelchair accessible as possible. (no stairs, with quiet spaces if needed!) All fighters will be required to take a COVID test and test negative 15 minutes before the fights begin.
There will be 5 matchup fights, with 10 fighters. Each fight will consist of 3 rounds, each round being 2 minutes. Trans men will get first dibs on the fighting slots, but anyone is welcome to sign up! If you wish to be on the fight list, please dm ruby_isnt_real on Instagram directly with proof of donation on Chuffed!
This is a nonbracketed, noncompetitive event. Show up to show off and have fun!
Dress appropriately, have fun but be practical and safe.
**COVER YOUR WEAPONS.** Whatever martial style you use, be sure to cover your weapons. If you're going to kick, bring shin guards. If you're going to punch, bring thick gloves. Want to go for the head? Your opponent should have headgear if possible.
Please keep the event safe and welcoming, we aren't here to injure anyone.
Some gear might be able to be borrowed. Any martial styles are welcome, matchups between fighters and consent around what styles each fighter is comfortable with taking on will be discussed before the fight.

As queer and trans organizers and organizations, we recognize that the struggle for immigrant justice is inextricably linked to our struggle for liberation, we recognize that the structures that regulate immigrants' bodies developed historically alongside the structures that regulate queer and trans bodies and that those structures operate using interconnected logics, we recognize that queer and trans immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, are at extremely high risk in this current moment, where ICE operations are expanding in our city, and we recognize that for many queer and trans immigrants being detained means being sexually assaulted while in captivity as well as being incarcerated or killed upon arrival to their home countries. Given this, we stand in firm solidarity with our immigrant neighbors and call for the abolition of ICE, borders, and the police. ¡EL PUEBLO UNIDO JAMÁS SERÁ VENCIDO!
