A ‘very special project’ indeed! I’ve been sitting on this for over a year and I am so so so happy to finally share them as it has now been featured on @nataalmedia If you would like to see more and read at your own leisure I’ve put the link to the story in my bio. Alternatively you can find more on beesamuel.com - praying extra hard for the end of corona so I can go back and do this again later this year!
Your Welcome to… Capella, Shanghai
I’d be lying if staying in a 5-storey ‘room’ wasn’t a highlight of our stay (entire trip) but there were so many smaller details that would make me recommend @capellashanghai to anyone visiting including: the daily Shanghai peaches, the Michelin star breakfast with a beef brisket noodle dish that I still think about, custom aromatherapy pouches and quite possibly the best turndown service I’ve experienced (swipe to see the sweetest note from the room attendant Mike)
A year well spent in the name of research for our new print project @yourwelcome.mag

After nearly eight years, what feels like a 1000 shoots and several Wacom tablets, my time at Net-A-Porter has come to and end.
A thousand thank yous isn’t enough 🖤
Voices: Ghana’s Artists In Their Own Words
Last year we went to Accra to start production on our second book.
Since then we have met and interviewed over eighty Ghanaian photographers, painters, illustrators, filmmakers, curators, gallerists and other creatives working in the visual arts.
We’re proud to be publishing this ambitious anthology of Ghana’s visual artists and the country’s vibrant creative scene and community.
Our editorial policy was to publish the artists in their own words: individually they speak about their art backgrounds, their craft and methodology plus the community that they share.
Collectively they contribute to a powerful document of Africa’s leading arts scene.
Special thanks to @orlandofficialle for trusting us with your first book and to all featured that took the time to talk to us and/or show us around their studios
It’s been so wonderful to work on this book and I hope you all love it as much as we have making it!

“Ile away from Uno” via FaceTime for Lagos Photo Home Museum
“Ile là bò simi oko" is a Yoruba proverb meaning “after a hard days work home is where you come to relax”.
After moving out from home for the first time, the new place didn’t quite feel like ‘home’. Although I had essentially remodelled my room in a different space, my parents weren’t there, nor was the smell of ogbono cooking or the morning wakeup call from my dad playing Omo Whytes remixes on the sound system. That is home for me but unfortunately that cannot be packed in a suitcase.
Due to Covid-19, for the first time ever I was unable to celebrate Eid with my mum. To compensate she wore my favourite Iro and Buba whilst my dad wore a complimenting Agbada and we all danced whilst I photographed my parents via FaceTime in my new room alongside the keepsakes that have been keeping me sane during this unsettling time.

“Central to this year’s edition is the “Home Museum”, an inclusive digital exhibition co-created by citizens in Nigeria and internationally who are invited to produce a fast shutter retrieval of their personal and family’s cultural heritage. Through high-speed photography, fleeting moments from the past are captured, helping to restore lost memories and demonstrate that the African continent is not trapped within an endless process of waiting for its heirlooms to be returned. On the contrary, the awareness created by Home Museum and the educational platforms set up by LagosPhoto20 will help to stimulate leverage and awareness of the issues around the restitution of cultural heritage in Africa.
Collections of historical African art held in museums are hard to access and often difficult to decipher for the outsider. Meanwhile, each artist and each citizen have their own imaginary visual collection built from personal belongings and experiences, including subjective responses to the differing flows of history.“
