Some days ago, I had the honor of releasing the follow-up to my album “Volumes” on the UK-based label @discreet_archive .
Both interpretations of the original composition were performed and recorded at the beautiful Stadtkirche Burgdorf. “Volumes for Organ” features the two organs situated on opposite sides of the church, as well as live electronics. It quickly became clear that “Volumes for Guitar” also had to be recorded in this amazing acoustic space. Playing it there gave the piece a completely different dimension compared to the studio rehearsals.
I had the great pleasure of working with the wonderful Lisa Mark, Dimitri Grüning, and Tinu Oesch, who played guitar and bass on “Volumes for Guitar”. Thank you for being part of this!
Thanks also to Simon, Nina, Jacob, Romaine, Julia, Mom, Dad, and everyone else who helped make this album possible.
Special thanks to Stadt Burgdorf, Kultur Stadt Bern, Swisslos – Kultur Kanton Bern, Burgergemeinde Bern, and Migros Kulturprozent for their financial support.
Grab a copy of the CD via the link in my bio!
Tobias Lanz - Volume Variations
Two new acoustic interpretations by Tobias Lanz shift his focus from digital organ synthesis back into physical space. Recorded at Stadtkirche Burgdorf, the church itself act as collaborator, shaping sound through resonance, reflection and decay.
Across Volumes for Organ and Volumes for Guitar, sustained tones, microtonal shifts and beat frequencies unfold as primary events. Minimal gestures create a dense interior movement.
Sound as relation, emerging in space through interaction.
Available as CD and digital via Bandcamp.
Volumes Variations — Tobias Lanz
Out April 24
Two excerpts are now available ahead of the full release.
Following Volumes (CRTTR, 2025), these new interpretations return the work to acoustic space. Recorded in the Stadtkirche Burgdorf, the hall operates as an active condition. Resonance accumulates and becomes structural, shaping the form of the piece.
Across organ and guitar ensemble, sustained tones establish a field in which small harmonic relations, beat frequencies and spatial interactions come into focus.
Limited CD edition available to pre-order.
Listen now via Bandcamp.

Simon & Tobias Lanz
Simon & Tobias Lanz are a duo of composer-performers, artists and brothers. Working between drone music, experimental composition, and visual aesthetics. Simon Lanz designs and builds the duo’s custom wind instruments, while Tobias Lanz focus lies on the compositional and conceptual frameworks. Their practice is collaborative across all stages, merging instrument-making, composition, and performance into an integrated artistic process. Drawing inspiration from the pipe organ while deliberately departing from its tradition, they employ microtonal tuning systems and unconventional playing techniques to explore sonic territories beyond Western twelve-tone frameworks and classical organ timbres.
CRTTR
is a creature of many faces: superstar, trickster and failed poet. It slips through the cracks, its cells dividing, mutating, and reassembling in an endless cycle. Every now and then shedding its skin as it seeks new spaces to grow.
And just when you think you’ve figured it out, it changes again. CRTTR is an artist collective based in Bern that hijacks radio waves, transforms cultural spaces, and works with sound and images. We curate exhibitions, organize concerts, host radio shows, and publish selected experimental sound and printed works. CRTTR thrives on collaboration, moving playfully through different genres. It’s a space where artists, musicians, storytellers, designers, and curators meet and experiment together.

Last week, we did a production residency at Burning Sound Labs in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where we finally recorded our second album.
Thanks to Bab, the entire Burning Sound team, and everyone who made this possible, as well as the Burgergemeinde Bern (@bgbern ) for their kind support.
The release will take some time — stay tuned.
PS: Save the date, on 16.05.2026, we’ll play a special set with our organ system, amplified and reverberated through the 32-channel loudspeaker dome at @miam.space .

● Tobias Lanz
