Check out a wonderful piece in Architecture Now, detailing the MTG Hawkes Bay Museum Research Archives Center. The building is conceived as two ‘houses’ — one dark, accommodating the collection, the other a light, inviting beacon - improving public access to the collection of more than 90,000 artifacts and taonga. See more at Architecture Now, or the link in our bio! https://architecturenow.co.nz/articles/sacred-feathers/

Wonderful to hear that the Living House in Rotorua has been named as a winner in the NZIA Waikato & Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards in the small projects category, as well as picking up a @resenecolour award. It was a lovely afternoon showing the judges the house, and very rewarding to hear how much the owner is enjoying living in the space. Keep on the lookout for more Living Houses popping up around the country! @nziarchitects @nzia_waikato.bay.of.plenty

After a week of wild weather, the reality of climate change feels close to home. Projects like Buckletons Bach and the Living House remind us that architecture can respond and tread lightly and design with resilience, restraint, and care for place. Tackling issues now, and thoughtful design is part of the response to change.

Check out Rich’s new work at FHE Galleries, and read about it further at @homeofarchitecture.co.nz At the intersection of architecture and art, Rich’s piece ’Transept’ distils the cruciform geometry of churches into a finely crafted timber work. Rooted in childhood memories of church spaces, the piece explores the power of intersections — of form, history and making. Four hollowed crosses, CNC‑milled then filleted and assembled by hand, are made from reclaimed Australian jarrah, carrying layered histories of land and labour. Subtle pink end grains reference historic architectural draughting and church roof forms. Displayed with edges almost touching, Transept gives weight to the space between objects, where tension, memory and quiet poetry emerge.
