how i made this painting … to be honest, i’ve been chipping away, working and reworking this piece since the end of august ‘25. it’s been the most rewarding painting to work on yet and i think that’s always the case with the most recent thing you do because all of your learning is synthesised into a tangible piece that you can hold up against past work and future ideas and use to ground yourself and understand how to take things further. i think for me, my next goal is to improve my values. though i love the palette that i used for this piece, i really rushed into blocking colour when i should’ve spent longer on the underpainting and establishing the clear value relationships that i had in my most developed sketch—i think the painting would’ve been better for it, but i am very fond of the piece as it exists now… and as has been told to me in many variations, YOU CANT CREATE AND ANALYSE AT THE SAME TIME. every painting is an experiment every piece of work is an exploration into the idea and the medium. the opportunities for growth and to learn how to move forward are endless !!! i already know that i want to take this body of work further and ideally exhibit it again having reworked some aspects to allow for performance… oilpainting,mdzs,artgallery,contemporaryart,artinstallation

tabula rasa . i’ve decided to rethink the exterior in the painting. as well my plan to limit the contrast this time, focusing more on incremental value shifts to suggest form through dense fog, i’ve introduced some textural brushstrokes which should offer some more visual interest to the piece. i’m obviously going to need to rework some of lz’s hair and skin but that was already on the cards so i’m not in too bad a position. the untamed art oils wangxian wuxia chinese novels chinese painting traditional art drawing contemporary artwork

i think i’ve now reached the halfway point of this painting. i don’t know how many hours we’ve spent together, but i do know that, slowly, things are revealing themselves to me. i’ve never been so patient in building up colour and light, i’ve never been so intentional with my process—even down to how i mix my colours. i hope it communicates something. i hope that something in this piece speaks to the heart. #oilpainting #fineart #bafineart #theuntamed #陈情令 #preraphaelite #britishartist #fanart🎨
