1. I graduated high school and took my final exams at 23 because I used to live in Oslo, and when I moved back to Romania my studies weren’t recognized.
2. I was good at many things, but I never truly excelled at anything until I was 26 and started doing hair. For the first time, I felt like that empty space inside me, the one wondering what I was meant to do with my life finally disappeared.
3. I have a deep love for thrifted clothes. Second hand stores are pure therapy to me.
4. I used to hate talking on the phone and had anxiety every time I had to answer a call… until I got hired as a receptionist at the salon where I now work as a hairstylist.
5. I was a people pleaser until about two years ago because I was too scared to say “no” or admit when things hurt me. Eventually I exploded, and it wasn’t pretty.
6. Once I’m done with people, I’m done. There’s no forcing closeness again after that.
7. I’m a Cancer. As strong as I may look, I cry just as easily over the smallest things.
8. When I lived in Norway, people used to call me “Rucola” instead of Raluca because nobody wanted to make the minimum effort to pronounce my name correctly.
9. I was bullied in Norway for being Romanian. Some of my classmates used to leave coins on my school desk so I could “buy food,” because in their minds Romanians were poor or came there to beg.
And somehow… I still became soft instead of cruel.
