And since then it’s been screened several times in film festivals here and abroad including New Delhi, New York, Cebu and Yogyakarta. There are some China stalls where the menu are exclusively in Chinese characters. Which I catch no ball because I English helicopter. So I’ve learnt to point confidently and say, ee hao, liang how, san how.

My dad was the sort who would often say things like, “I want all my children to be like doctors and lawyers” So I hated when I was young during family gatherings when children of my dad’s friends will be comparing school grades and I wasn’t doing well in school. One day we were in Little India where my dad met one of his friends. I had long hair then and was worried what my dad would say if his friend ask what I was doing. But he was quick thinking and I almost fainted when he proudly introduced me saying, “This is my son the artist”
