I used to assume that a show requires an external anchor - a festival, a theater, a deadline that stresses the soul just to force it into existence.
Sia and I have been in the studio since November refusing to pin down a date.
Instead, we pinned ourselves to the search. We committed to the stalemate, to the days where nothing moved and nothing seemed to show up. We committed to the simple, stubborn act of staying in the room and keeping in motion.
We traded the pressure of a premiere for the ritual of making.
And then, one day, it was clear that the work wanted to be shared.

Every creation I embark on begins with fear. That basic, primitive fear we are all familiar with. Years pass, yet nothing changes. I arrive on the first day of working, and I feel it deep in my bones and yes, under my armpits too. Over time, Iโve noticed that this fear can swell to unbearable proportions, or shrink into something so small itโs almost imperceptible, always reflecting the people with whom I share the journey.
Deep gratitude to my friend Landerer the steady anchor, to Febe Motek the spark, to Moka pot provider Richรจl, to Theo I may be slow, but I am not stupid, to Dorฤja hard work incarnate, to Rhiannon poetry at the snap of a finger, to Gaya ever surprising us, to Fรฉlix the musician, to Hella falling in and out of loveโฆ, to Alex I might be internship, but I am more than ready, to Hampus shrugging shoulder, to Hiro the hero, to Chiara still water runs deep, to Jacob the knife game song, and to Naomi ohโฆ hi Mark.
Thank you for shrinking my fear to a tiny, almost invisible pulse.

Even though we live in an era in which gender boundaries are crumbling, still today we raise boys to be providers, to be stoic, not to whine but to be heros and fighters, to be men!
I am building a studio for dance to exist.
A close colleague corrected me and said:
"You build a studio for dance to thrive".
But I canโt use that word - not now. It feels too big.
If anything should thrive, let it be peace.
Let compassion from every corner of this country thrive.
Let the sensitivity to hold complexity thrive.
Let the courage to say no to war thrive.
And, last but not least, let the responsibility of our government to bring back our hostages thrive.

15 years ago, I got the urge to make a dance and Emanuel had just got his first Canon to capture it.
It ended up chilling in the forgotten files ever since.
