Gillian Eaton 1947 - 2025 🏴♥️
“Yesterday, we said goodbye to a giant in our world. Gillian Irene Jane Eaton passed away peacefully at our family home in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
She was our everything. A devoted matriarch, an inspiring leader, a gifted writer, director, actress, professor, and teacher. But above all, she was a beloved mother to her four children—and a mother figure to countless others in our community—and a cherished grandmother to seven.
Born in Wales, Gilly’s journey began at the Old Vic Theater School before joining The Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1973, while on tour, she met and married the love of her life, and partner of 35 years—Elton Randy Eaton. Her extraordinary career spanned decades and continents, gracing the stages of London’s West End and Los Angeles with her award-winning performances. Her creative path later led her to collaborate with the Detroit Historical Museum, teach at the University of Michigan, and—remarkably—earn her PhD in Creative Writing from Cardiff University at the age of 78.
Gilly was hilarious, fearless, intensely kind, endlessly curious, and profoundly loving. She set a high standard for how to move through the world—with generosity, grace, and unwavering principle. She championed justice, abhorred cruelty and racism, and offered her heart to anyone she met. Her presence lit up every room, often announced with her signature greeting: “Hello, darlings!”
We are forever changed by her loss. And forever grateful for her life.
We love you, Mum.”
