An exhibition featuring plein air paintings and a journaling process that led the artist to discover a powerful tool for personal development, emotional resilience, and self-discovery.
“Art journaling is not merely a form of self-care; it is a powerful tool for personal development, emotional resilience, and self-discovery.”

Got my hands on a mini microphone and learned about green screening 😅 I thought I’d make a reel featuring a Letters to Myself painting and journal entry. Watch the whole video to get a special surprise 🦆

Have been getting ready for market season with my entourage of many cats while gallery sitting at my current exhibition, ‘Letters to Myself’. Next weekend May 16 and 17th is the last weekend to see this show!
Letters to Myself opens tonight!
This exhibition features small oil paintings done en plein air during my residency in Vernon BC last summer. Accompanying them are journal excerpts given insight into my process and thoughts.
An excerpt:
I’m painting by the mines again and thinking, why?
What themes interest me and relate to my paintings?
Barriers! The fine line the viewer has between looking into an artwork and being taken out of it. The physicality of the paint reminds you that it is an object. The image may pull you into your own associations and memories that connect to the painting. The objectness of the paint reminds you of its process of creation and that its job is not to mimic an environment once seen but to give you insight that it is now a new thing unto its own. I play with the line between realism and abstraction because I am interested in that moment when a work of art shifts the focus from looking into a window and rather pays attention to the quality of the window itself. There is a barrier between the moment of creation and its future existence. Wet, fresh, in progress transformed through cured oil paint.
My next exhibition, Letters to Myself reflects on paintings and writing made during my artist residency in the Okanagan. The show will consist of en plein air oil paintings, a paper towel print and even a ceramic car✨
I hope to see you there!
