Congratulations to CED's Dr. McDevitt for winning the Wellness Strategic Planning Task Force at Rowan University's Well-Being Innovative Practices Mini-Grant with her proposal, "Radical Rest and Rigor: Reclaiming Time and Well-Being for First-Gen, Immigrant, and Non-Traditional Students through Systemic Planning." Dr. McDevitt plans to use the $1500 grant to host an eight-week hybrid workshop series for students from marginalized populations. “This initiative empowers our most marginalized students to navigate an increasingly complex, yet distracted world with agency and resilience, ensuring that Rowan University remains a sanctuary of sustainable, holistic success for all,” shared Dr. McDevitt. We're #RowanPROUD and excited to see Dr. McDevitt using this grant to advance well-being inside and outside of the classroom!

This year's first Camp Abilities NJ @ Rowan University family session was a success! Rowan Health & Physical Education students and faculty collaborated with students and faculty from the School of Nursing & Health Professions to host children with visual impairments and their families on campus. Campers: - Played goalball and beep baseball (two adaptive sports) - Rock climbed - Learned about EMT services and what's inside an ambulance with Rowan EMS This project was funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey Health Foundation. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and made this event possible and so successful!

"I think any teacher that’s trying to continue to advance themselves within their career to grow professionally and personally, [Rowan] would be the spot to do it." — Kaitlyn Greenwood M'20 Hear from 2020 M.A. in Reading Education graduate Kaitlyn Greenwood on how her time within the College of Education positively shaped and prepared her for her career as an educator in a new interview with Rowan University. “My experience here has really helped me shape many students’ lives,” shared Kaitlyn. The College of Education Teacher Preparation Academy is a unique partnership that provides interested high school students with an opportunity to earn college credit, engage in experiential activities with Rowan University teacher candidates and P-12 learners in their school district, and develop relationships with Rowan University faculty and staff. These activities and interactions result in a seamless transition from high school to college. Fifty-one students from three different high school Teacher Preparation Academies (Egg Harbor Township, Millville, and Paulsboro) visited our campus on May 1. The visit began with a bingo game, where students identified a new friend who fit a description in a bingo block. Students received CED swag if they were able to create bingo. Students also met and heard from various university representatives (Dorothy Abruzzo-Klumpp, Advising Center, Aylssa Holzer, Admissions, Dr. Ya Vanca Brooks, Recruitment and Retention Specialist, and Jillian Brough, CED Student Ambassador), who spoke about becoming a Prof. We can't wait to welcome these future Profs back as they embark on their journeys as educators in the near future!

Each spring, Rowan University highlights one graduating student from each school and college. HPE student Justin Hawkins was chosen, and we're so proud that he's representing our College! Justin sees his Health & Physical Education program as a way to build a community among students and educators. As a soon-to-be Class of '26 HPE student, Justin's passion for education is evident in his involvement within our College. He serves as one of our inaugural Student Ambassadors, an executive board member of Rowan’s Health & Physical Education Club, and, most notably, SHAPE America's Major of the Year. In Justin's feature story on Rowan Today, he details his academic journey, which led him to pursue a career as an HPE educator. He aims to be an educator who encourages his students to achieve their dreams. “I’ve had people believe in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” he says. “If I can be that person for even one student, I’m doing my job.” We're so proud of Justin and all he's accomplished. We can't wait to celebrate him and the rest of our Profs at our graduation ceremony this Tuesday, 05/12. Read Justin's full story at tinyurl.com/RowanTodayHawkins!
