Welcome to the District: Rougarou Baking!
@rougaroubaking just opened at 526 S 4th St and is serving up Jewish and Cajun inspired baked goods. They’re such a welcome addition to the neighborhood, and yes, everything is as delicious as it looks!
Currently open Friday through Sunday, so be sure to stop by on your next weekend on South Street. (But make sure to stop in early…they sell out fast!)

An old-world sign for Philadelphia’s own Rougarou Baking (@rougaroubaking ). Made from reclaimed pine beams older than most humans, and it felt good to see they still had a beauty waiting to be found.
(Full-length build video over on youtube.com/mrsawdust — for anyone who hates watching 3-minute cutdowns of an otherwise well-paced 16:9 edit, strangled into vertical format — as much as I hate doing it…) https://youtu.be/qTJSD3dSsWI
Built breadboard-style with sturdy white oak ends, to hopefully let that old pine breathe easy over the highs & lows of a life lived outdoors on the East coast. Time will tell, and fortunately, the only thing that looks finer than a brand new sign is an old, well-weathered one, still there years on, doing what it was meant to do all along — quietly telling you that you’ve found what you’re looking for, and inviting you to step inside.
Best of luck to Paige & Zach, the owners of Rougarou – they’ve got a lovely shop, making baked goods I imagine I’d have trouble eating anything less than “far too much of”.

Rougarou Bakery
Now open at 526 S 4th Street!
Friday to Sunday, 8am to sell out
Stop by and try one of my favorite savory pastries in the city, the jambalaya hand pie. Grab a big slice of babka or maybe a perfectly soft & spiced ginger cookie. There are no wrong choices at @rougaroubaking
Congrats Paige & Zach!
Scenes from opening weekend.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We’re coming back strong and mighty next week.
See y’all then 💐🐊⚜️
