Very excited to share that the 40th Anniversary event for @london.potters is coming up this weekend, and I am honoured to be one of the creators taking part in a panel discussion on sustainability, alongside Prashant Patel and Claire Baily. The talk will be held at 11am-1pm on Sunday 22nd at the Art Worker's Guild (WC1N 3AT) and you can book your tickets now through the London Potter's website. We hope to see you there!
So happy to have received these images from the Surface Design Awards a few weeks ago, where ReCinder picked up the award for Material Transformation. What a huge honour to be chosen amongst such amazing projects and a massive thank you to @surfacethinking for believing in ReCinder! An amazing start to the year, and we cannot wait to show you what's in store for the rest of 2026!
Congratulations to Rosy for winning this year’s Material Transformation Prize from @surfacethinking
Rosy makes functional pieces, aiming to maximise her work’s potential life after firing through utility and purpose.
Above all, she uses unwanted and unused resources to replace environmentally damaging ones in the hopes of one day reducing the ceramic industry’s impact on the planet.
In 2022 Rosy developed ReCinder, a 100% recycled material made from discarded broken ceramic and waste ash, that has been diverted from landfill.
🏆 Big news from last night’s Surface Design Awards 2026!
ReCinder is the winner of this year’s Material Transformation Award!
This ground-breaking project demonstrates how traditionally unrecyclable vitrified ceramic waste can be transformed into a high-performance material and product range with a significantly lower carbon footprint.
Huge congratulations to @rosynapper_studio@thehost.store and the entire team behind ReCinder for the tenacity, belief and commitment to proving that circular design is possible.
Thank you to Surface Design Show @surfacethinking for championing innovation that shapes the future, Hamish Kilburn @hotel_travel_editor for hosting the ceremony with such great energy, and to the judges and everyone who voted for the fundamental change ReCinder represents.
Congratulations to all the other winners and shortlisted candidates – stunning work all around!
Here we go! ✨♻️
Here are the Product Design Winners of the 2026 Surface Design Awards!
Agri-Fruit-Bag by @liza.c.design was a standout for the judging panel as they won both the Innovation and Sustainability. The project presents a visionary approach to circular regeneration to transform products such as tomato leaves into a biodegradable biofilm that replaces plastic packaging and naturally decomposes the harvest.
The Material transformation award was awarded to ReCinder by @rosynapper_studio . This is the world’s first 100% Translucent ceramic made entirely from post-consumer fired ceramics and ash. This demonstrated how traditionally unrecycled waste can be transformed into high-performance materials with a lower carbon footprint.
The Heritage & Craft award was won by @tanaka_eyewear Patina as Performance. This collection was recognised for advancing pre-plastic traditions through contemporized design. Using paper-based composite and kintsugi inspired repair, each frame embraces ageing and repair to last generations.
The Digital Integration award was presented to CoWave by @agablonska_studio . This groundbreaking project combines neuroscience and AI to translate human emotional data into personalised, 3D-printed acoustic panels made from circular materials.
Together, these winners showcase how surface design drives innovation, sustainability and meaningful material transformation.
