These scallop shells were originally meant for front-facing calligraphy, but the texture had me second guessing if it’d show up nicely and with clean lines. So, we kept the back of the shell as a little plan B.
But turns out, the back had this beautiful pearly finish that completely won us over! Plan B, you win 🤍🐚

Somewhere along the way, I realised I don’t make things for myself nearly as often as I should, so today was that day! Finished with a velvet bow for a cute touch and an overall excuse to eat more cake.
I did make a little mistake though with the placement of the engraving but we learn as we go.

What started as my original pear place cards - bright, yellow and modern - slowly shifted into something a little more vintage inspired with the warm brown tones carried, and a little more refined. A design that evolved to fit with the bride’s vision.
A few iterations later…this is where we landed and I’m so in love with it! 😍I hope that even after the day is over, each one can find a place on a shelf or wall as a little keepsake 🤎

Chocolate brown has fully taken over my heart lately 🤎
While doing a bit of a tidy up, I found a bottle of gold mica paste that I somehow hadn’t used yet. The moment I opened it, the vibrancy, the texture, it was so gorgeous that I couldn’t leave it untouched (and knowing it works especially well on dark paper, it felt like the perfect moment to use it!)

With place cards, no two are ever the same, and sometimes that means rewriting a name three times just to get the spacing right, fixing the centring or dealing with the little ink mishaps.
With every name I write, there’s always something I’m refining, whether that’s the muscle control or my eye for balance.
It’s not just about labelling a seat, it about adding something that feels considered, that feels personal, and a lot of that care lives in the smallest details you don’t always see 💌

Six months later... and we’re finally at part II of learning how to bottle paint 🌸🎨✨
I’ve spent my time quietly watching, saving videos, studying how others move their brush and telling myself I’d sit down and try it ‘again soon’ but you know how that usually goes sometimes 🤭
But here we are, back with something small. A session to get my hands moving again instead of having it all stay in my head.
Things I’ve learned this time round:
• My paint dried way faster than I expected on the palette, so pre-mixing was tricky.
• Loading multiple colours onto my brush and rotating it with each stroke so the colours don’t fall the same way twice, creating more variation.
• I found the paint to be quite sheer under certain light so adding a dabble of white helped it feel a bit more opaque.
• Filbert shaped brushes are amazing for petals.
Now I just need to figure out how to seal it properly so it won’t rub away once it’s in someone’s hands 🫶
