A few weeks ago some copies of my earrings showed up on Temu. I actually only found out because someone had spotted them in a UK shop, and reached out to me asking I was stocked there - I was not! A reverse google image search revealed the copies being sold by a vendor on Temu, and much as I didn’t want to give them my money, I really wanted to see what they looked like up close! Well, here they are. I can’t decide if seeing how basic they are makes me feel better or worse. I guess better because the difference in quality between handmade and mass produced is pretty clear here…but worse because the copies were being sold for £1.75 and the product listings showed they’d already sold hundreds of pairs. And when I think about how often this happens and how much STUFF is being produced daily, it stresses me out 🫠 Anyway, when I shared about this on stories, SO many small businesses replied to say this has happened to them too. And thankfully there is some positive news - Temu has an IP infringement form you can use to report copies. I did this and the listings were taken down within days! So, if this has happened to you too, please give this a go. If you need the link to the form just ask and I’ll send it to you. We shouldn’t have to, but at least it works. I don’t really have the energy to say much more about this… It is BRUTAL being a small business at the moment, and yes, I know (SOME OF) my jewellery isn’t the most affordable, but it doesn’t mean a £1.75 copy is justifiable either.
