It’s all green in the fields with today’s focus on growing for next year.
The vibrant blooms that painted the fields in endless beds of color may be gone for the spring, but beneath the soil, millions upon millions of bulbs are hard at work — storing energy, growing larger day by day, and already developing flowers for another spectacular bloom season nearly ten months from now.
These bulbs will continue growing for the next 6 - 8 weeks until summer harvest begins and they’re carefully lifted from the ground.
The Skagit Valley is a magical place to live and grow - and one of the best areas for growing bulbs (along with potatoes, berries, and vegetable seeds) in the world!

🌷 Topped but not forgotten. 🌷
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your tulips is to let the bloom go. Before the petals begin to fall, gently grab the stem just below the bloom and give it a simple bend and snap! 🫰
That’s what we do to a million blooms in our display garden and tens of millions more throughout our fields. Although we do use a specialty machine to speed the process in the fields.
But why do we “top” the blooms? Topping the tulip flowers helps to promote bulb growth by redirecting energy back to the bulb (re photosynthesis) sending it right where it matters most - for next spring.
Topping also helps to prevent any petals from falling onto the plant foliage where it can rot and lead to disease. And finally, as a bonus the earth receives some added organic matter which helps improve the structure of the soil for the next tulip rotation in five or six years. Every bit helps.
TLDR? A simple snap today means stronger bulbs tomorrow. Trust the process because next year’s magic is now growing underground!
And YES, RoozenGaarde has finished blooming for the spring. We’re already looking forward to next year with the goal of making things bigger, better, and more colorful than ever before!

Still colorful… but not as colorful.
RoozenGaarde is nearing the end of the spring bloom season. The garden looks quite lovely while 1 ½ acres of tulips have been left to flower in our field through the weekend.
The scale of color is not the same as earlier this spring – or even earlier this week – but it is still beautiful. So if you are hoping to enjoy the tulips this spring before they are gone, we welcome you to come and bloom with us!
However, if your expectation is to see row upon row upon row of tulip (or daffodil) color throughout our fields, you will no longer find that color… until next spring. We still hope that you will decide to bloom with us and add some color to your day!
Helpful notes to know:
🌷there will be less color with each passing day.
🌷the remaining field blooms will be left to flower thru the weekend.
🌷a small amount of tulips will continue to flower in our garden into next week.
🌷 individuals with an online ticket will receive a free bunch of tulips with admissions this weekend.

The late season color on display in the garden is looking quite wonderful at the moment while the French tulip varieties (about 2 acres) continue to flower in our field! BLOOM UPDATE
Still very colorful - just not quite as colorful as the weekend.
So what does that mean? We still have a garden filled with blooms and about 2 acres of tulips coloring our field.
If you want to experience our bloom this spring, you still have time! Plan your visit asap because there will be a little less color with each passing day as the flowers fade away. What’s still left flowering we will hold for as long as we can, but Mother Nature will determine when the petals fall off! That could be May 1, or May 2, or maybe May 3rd…

BLOOOM UPDATE: oooh la la!
The display garden is looking simply stunning at the moment while all of the late blooming tulip varieties are now flowering in the field.
The forecast ahead looks as perfect as we could hope, so come on out and get your bloom on this spring! We recommend planning to visit by this Sunday, April 26 for the best of the late season color.
The garden will continue to bloom beautifully beyond this weekend and we plan to hold the remaining field color for as long as possible - but expect only the latest of the late varieties to flower after Sunday.
