Mapping the Black Information Future: From Archives to Artificial Intelligence, from Movement-building to Memory-work
Tuesday, October 14, 2025
12:00 - 1:30 pm PT/2:00 - 3:30 pm CT/3:00 - 4:30 pm ET
Hosted by the Center for Advances in Libraries Museums and Archives at the (Number #1 rated) University of Washington Information School.
This weekend I walked the red roads of Alberta and Boykin, AL mesmerized by the handiwork of Gee’s Bend quilters that simultaneously defy and define geometry. Each quilt serves as a cultural archive. This discussion featuring noted librarian, archivist, and historical landmark registrar Makiba Foster, Steven G Fullwood, and Jada Jones, respectively, seeks to center, decode, and encode the “Black Information Future” which moderator, Tracie D. Hall, has defined as the ability of Black people to gain equitable analog and digital access to the information and information technologies needed to achieve and sustain social agency, authorship, educational attainment, economic mobility, environmental responsiveness and stewardship, and collective well-being.

This Saturday we are taking the fight for access to our stories and culture — and support for the agencies that protect this access — to DC as we stand up for the The Library of Congress, as well as Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities.
Join us in person if you can. Let’s fill this Town Hall.
For those in other regions, tune in to the livestream.
They are fighting for a “Project”. We are fighting for #Freadom25!
The goal of tyranny is to silence us. To make us afraid to speak up against violence and injustice because we may risk our jobs or social standing…when all the time our silence is bringing us closer to losing our lives.
