We’re crowdfunding the final stage of One & A Half. This film began as a poem about living in between. Between languages. Between cultures. Between the versions of home we carry within us. One & A Half is a short film rooted in my story between German and Egyptian heritage, but it speaks to something much bigger: the shared experience of navigating identity, memory and belonging across cultures. We have already raised €30.000 and are now seeking support for the remaining €10.000 to bring this project to completion. Every gesture brings this film closer to the screen, connecting viewers to stories that are personal, collective and needed. @rootsbrln and İÇ İÇE are joining forces for two workshops centered on creativity, exchange, and collective care. ROOTS Berlin is a community-based space created with and for the Global Majority, fostering rest, learning, healing, and solidarity through movement and shared knowledge. ROOTS x Idylle presents a collective singing experience exploring voice, memory, and belonging through breath, improvisation, singing, and writing. @idylleplays ’s practice moves between Anatolian-Alevi musical traditions, improvisation, and collective work, shaped through their connection to Berlin’s BIPOC vocal community. ROOTS x Naima: The Power of Creative Expression is a guided writing workshop using language as a tool for memory, connection, and self expression beyond performance. @naimanzr Naima is a German-Egyptian poet working across writing and visual storytelling, exploring memory, diaspora, resistance, and care through personal and collective narratives.

Meet ROOTS. A space we’re tending with intention, where we can show up fully, hold complexity and grow in connection with one another. This is an invitation to be part of something living: to witness, to share, to question, to move and to build together. Stay with us. Walk with us. Build with us. more via our Substack - link in bio, articles written by @monika.jiang pictures (1-3) by @gideonsmithpaul @theoriginalnigisti

Belonging can’t grow from “us vs. them.” If it excludes, it isn’t belonging. Between sound, movement and shared moments. Holding space in a world shaped by fracture and resistance. How do we stay present within it all?

We enter 2026 with a world that feels both painfully familiar and deeply unsettling. The persistence of imperial logics, extractive systems and violent hierarchies is not abstract. It lives in bodies, families, communities and the realities of those pushed to the margins. What is often called “modernity” continues to shape how we relate, exclude and disconnect. And still, we ask: what becomes possible if we choose to stay in relation? Full article on Substack, link in bio. https://shorturl.at/EMWZW written by @monika.jiang
