The Pinoy Denim Varsity Tee & matching shorts are available for purchase🇵🇭 DM to make it yours! • This shirt was made from scratch using 108 denim scraps that were saved from entering landfills. Detailed on the back, the Filipino sun was created out of jacquard satin scraps that were originally from a dress picked up at a clothing swap. Rooted Empath is business & personal. Building this business back in 2020, formerly known as “REStyle 4 Change”, it was me in my bedroom selling clothes from my closet to support families coping from the loss of loved ones due to senseless violence fueled by hatred & ignorance. Since then, it has blossomed into an upcycled streetwear clothing brand known as “Rooted Empath Studio” - a commentary on human’s relationship with nature. Rooted Empath is backed by an amazing community of passionate and fashionable humans. Growing up in poverty - my parents & sister showed my brothers and I what hard work, long hours, and sacrifice looked like. I carry that with me everyday, I remind myself just how blessed I am to have my job be my passion project because of the work they did to raise and support me. Getting to this point was not easy and it is still not easy. I have by no means arrived, but I know the payoff will be so worth the wait. Rooted Empath is the product of sleepless nights, hard work, tears, blood (literally… them pins be sharp), lots of miles driven, nurturing relationships, and lots of love. To have shared at the National Museum of Women in the Arts was one of the greatest accomplishments of my career. To present amongst the art of fearless women that before me was such a gift. I was honored to be an example of what it looks like when women refuse to accept their current circumstances as what defines them, stand up to the oppressor, to break barriers, break generational traumas, and to fight for the life they want. I share this with you all to continue to fight for your dreams, work HARD, develop and nurture relationships, be KIND, and keep your heart open. Sooner or later everything you want will come your way. Let’s do this together!
