If you grew up in old Bangalore, this one will hit differently ❤️ From the history behind Malleshwaram being created after the plague, to how Sheshadripuram and Kumara Park got their names from Sheshadri Iyer — 2 localities named after the same person - this conversation is packed with stories every Bangalorean will love. And then come the school memories: Stella Maris School, Cluny Convent, Poorna Prajna… and the hilarious nicknames students had for each other 😄 This is the Bangalore that existed before traffic memes and startup culture. Warm, nostalgic, personal, and full of character. Why is it called Museum Road in Bangalore? 👀 Turns out, the city’s original government museum was actually located there long before it moved to its present location near the Visvesvaraya Museum. In the 1880s, a Scottish surgeon named Dr. Edward Balfour started a unique idea in Madras — asking ordinary people to send in interesting objects, utensils, clothes, and artifacts from their regions to help build a public museum. The concept became such a success that a similar museum was started in Bangalore too. And that tiny historical detail is still hiding in plain sight… in the name “Museum Road.” 🤯 Bangalore is full of stories like this — hidden in street names, old buildings, and forgotten corners of the city. *THE BANGALORE ROOM AND HARPER COLLINS PUBLISHERS INDIA INVITE YOU TO A FEAST FROM THE FUTURE!* Imagine a world where food - sensual, tactile, evocative food - was reduced to nothing more than colourful cubes of nutritious substrate. Imagine a universe where humans who have long abandoned the Earth for other planets no longer preyed on plants and animals, where every flavour exploding on our tongues was the result of nothing more than masterful technology. How would that impact the human experience of creating, eating, sharing, feasting? Would erasing differences in food culture naturally lead to a more harmonious, equitable society? In her wonderful two-book 'Flavour Hacker' sci-fi series, *award-winning author Lavanya Lakshminarayan* brilliantly imagines our collective future through the lens of food, and all the emotions connected with it. The best part? Uru, the Earth-land at the heart of the story, bears a rather striking resemblance to our own ooru! Take a seat at the table as Lavanya, in conversation with fellow Bangalore author @roopa.pai , takes you through a delicious journey through *Interstellar Megachef* and *Intergalactic Feast*, a journey that is sure to provide its experiencers much food for thought (and for the stomach!) Why "One Size Fits All" never actually fits anyone. 🧩🏃‍♂️ "I know what I do to be fit for my body, my composition, my lifestyle." — Ms. Roopa Pai sharing insights from her book with @milindrunning , @ankita_earthy and @somanusha We live in an era of 10-step lists and trending career paths, but the hardest work is the one nobody wants to do: understanding ourselves. Whether it’s a fitness mantra like "Keep Moving" or choosing between science and the arts, the answer isn't in a textbook—it’s in your own aptitude. As leaders in the education space, The Brigade Schools believes that our role is to help students discover their unique "inner resources". We don’t want children to just follow a trend; we want them to find what suits their individual DNA. Parenting Reflection: Are we guiding our children toward a "list" of success, or helping them discover what truly moves them? Share this if you believe every child’s path is unique! "It’s very easy to say to children 'you are not reading,' but if you are not role-modeling it as a parent, where do they pick up their behavior from?" — Ms. Roopa Pai. In this viral-worthy moment from Episode 6, Ms. Roopa Pai hits the nail on the head regarding the "Screen Time Struggle." We often outsource our children's care to devices and then wonder why they aren't picking up books. The Brigade Schools perspective: Leadership begins at home. If we want our children to be critical thinkers and avid learners, we have to show them that we value those things too. Challenge for the week: Turn off the devices for 30 minutes a day. Sit with a book, a hobby, or just each other. Watch how their world changes when your world shifts. 🌿 ✨ Tag a parent who needs to hear this today! What is a Dewan of Mysore? 🤯 If you think it sounds like a royal title, you’re half right. The Dewan was essentially the Prime Minister of the Mysore — the brain behind the throne. While the Wodeyar Dynasty ruled as kings, it was the Dewan who advised, administered, and often shaped the future of the kingdom. Think of them as the people who turned vision into reality. Between 1831 and 1881, the British directly controlled Mysore. But when power returned to the Wodeyars in 1881, a remarkable era began — one defined by an extraordinary lineup of Dewans. These weren’t just bureaucrats. They were visionaries, reformers, and nation-builders. A literal roll of honour of some of the most accomplished individuals of their time. Sir M Visveswaraya, Madhav Rao, Sheshadri Iyer, Mirza Ismail. Their decisions influenced governance, infrastructure, and the evolution of Mysore into one of the most progressive princely states in India. So next time you hear “Dewan,” remember — they weren’t just advisors. They were the architects behind a kingdom’s success. Did you know that BangaloreAN helped design one of the most important aircraft of World War I? Everyone knows J.R.D. Tata as India’s aviation pioneer. But very few people know about Sriram Venkatasubba Setty — a brilliant engineer from Bangalore who helped design one of the most important aircraft of World War I. In the early 1900s, Setty studied at Faraday House in London and joined A.V. Roe (Avro), one of the earliest aircraft manufacturing companies. When aviation was still experimental and planes were crashing regularly, Setty worked on improving aircraft design. His work eventually evolved into the Avro 504, a training aircraft that became the most produced aircraft during World War I. Think about that. An engineer from Bangalore helped shape global aviation history — yet his name is barely known today. Even more fascinating: Setty later became associated with UVCE (University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering) in Bengaluru. Thousands of students have studied there without realizing the college was once connected to a pioneer of early aviation engineering. Sometimes the biggest stories in Bangalore’s history are hiding in plain sight. Follow for more forgotten stories of Bengaluru and the people who shaped the world. Bangalore is not perfect. The traffic tests your patience. Autos may test your diplomacy. But somehow… the city still wins your heart. ❤️ This poem is a small tribute to Namma Bengaluru — the city of Kempegowda, Cubbon, Tipu Sultan, Sir MV, Raman and countless dreamers. A city where beer flows freely, ideas are born daily, and the dosa absolutely slaps. Call it cosmopolitan charm, entrepreneurial spirit, or just that Bangalore magic — once the city becomes home, it never leaves you. Would you stick with Bangalore too?
