Rehearsals are underway for Kiyon Ross’s 𝟷𝟶: 𝘜𝘯-𝘈’𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘴, a razor-sharp, high-velocity ballet that demands clarity, musicality, and fearless attack. We’re thrilled to welcome stagers Noelani Pantastico and Andrew Scordato to Tucson as they teach and coach our dancers, bringing precision, nuance, and insight to Ross’s electrifying choreography.
𝟷𝟶: 𝘜𝘯-𝘈’𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘴 will be performed as part of Desert Voices 🌵, a powerful program celebrating live music and bold contemporary ballet.

#behindthescenes We are fortunate to have artistic guest Andrew Scordato in town from New York City to stage internationally acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck's dazzling Pulcinella Variations (making its Ballet Tucson premiere in our Modern Masters concert March 14-16). Andrew is not only coaching our professional company dancers during his visit. He will also share his expertise as an instructor at the School of American Ballet with our @schoolofballettucson students this Sunday in two special masterclasses!
𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗪 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗢
Andrew Scordato was born in Sewell, New Jersey, and began his dance training at the age of nine at The Rock School in Philadelphia. Mr. Scordato earned a merit scholarship to the School of American Ballet's 2002 Summer Course at the age of 16 and was invited to continue his training in SAB's Winter Term the same year. In October 2005, Mr. Scordato became an apprentice with New York City Ballet, and in July 2006, he joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet.
Mr. Scordato has performed featured roles in numerous ballets including Balanchine's Agon, Chaconne, Divertimento No. 15, The Four Temperaments, Symphony in C, and George Balanchine's The Nutcracker®; Peter Martins'
Romeo + Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake; Jerome Robbins's The Concert and Glass Pieces; and Christopher Wheeldon's Carousel (A Dance). Mr. Scordato has also originated featured roles in several ballets by Justin Peck, including Everywhere We Go, Rōdē,ō: Four Dance Episodes, Pulcinella Variations, and The Most Incredible Thing.
Mr. Scordato was invited to become a School of American Ballet teaching fellow in 2012. He joined SAB's faculty in 2014. Mr. Scordato currently oversees the SAB/NYCB Apprentice Mentorship Program alongside SAB's dean of students and continues to dance with New York City Ballet.

Most anyone in dance education has experienced those uncomfortable moments when a student responds negatively to feedback, refuses to apply corrections, or outright talks back.
Ideally, students will trust their teachers have the best intentions in mind for them and respond accordingly. But if this isn’t happening, how does one create a healthy, pushback-free learning environment?

Hey everyone! I’m so excited to be teaching this class at our beautiful school this Saturday Sept 24th at 4pm! It’s only a $25 dollar donation to help SAB and you know what, that’s cheaper than some open classes! For those who I haven’t been able to tell in person, I wanted to share the news that after 17 years, 127 parts in 90 ballets, and a few scratches and bruises to say the least, I’ll be retiring from The New York City Ballet. My final performance will be A Midsummer Night’s Dream on May 28th at 8pm. Like anything in life, this journey has been full of ups and downs and I couldn’t be more grateful to have a supportive family who understood all the sacrifices that go into this career, incredible friends by my side on and off the stage, and the most patient and loving husband I could have ever hoped for. I am looking forward to closing this chapter of my life and finally having only one job and more time to spend with everyone!

Five dancers will face off for a culinary showdown on Zoom, featuring a top-secret ingredient they’ll find out once the competition begins. Hosts Sara Adams and Kristen Segin will be checking in on your questions and comments as our chefs race against the clock to make a dish so beautiful and inspiring, it will make you poke your screen with a fork!

Instead of champaign we are popping a geyser! @benjnadal and I are on our 2nd anniversary vacation in Iceland and it's Pride here today in Reykjavík! Total coincidence! Iceland was ranked the happiest place for gay people to live in the world so what a cool time to be here! We will be sad to leave tomorrow but it's almost time to get back to the real world.
