Last month Maeve told me and Cole that she “wants to make something weird.” She came to the right duo. I immediately thought of the film Daisies, whose bold joy hasn’t left my mind since I watched it for the first time years ago. I lean towards strangeness because nearly everything I see, read, and think every day makes no sense to me. By unraveling this, we tried to make sense of it all.
This project wouldn’t exist without the brilliant crew behind it. Especially Amy who told me “yes” 1,000 times. You can read more about the production on her Substack: Centrepiece, from which I’ve shared excerpts of her incredible writing here.
Nobody had ever trusted me with a real budget before. I had never trusted myself with directing a real crew before. A crew had never trusted me so thoroughly before. Trust goes a long way. It’s how we turned a daydream into something beautiful and strange.
