Art, whatever it takes: Interview with Lucia Moni. After earning a master’s degree in Art History from the University of Pisa, with a thesis on Salvador Dalí, Lucia Moni has been coordinator at the Centre for Dalinian Studies since 2009. She’s currently senior curator at the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí and responsible for the audiovisual archive. Lucia has participated in the curatorship of exhibitions, as ‘Dalí. Revolution and Tradition’ (Museo del Corso-Rome, 2025), is author of specialised writings focusing on Dalí’s admiration for Renaissance artists, and co-curated the first chronology of Dalí in Italy: ‘Dalí: an artist, a genius’ exhibition’ at Vittoriano-Rome (Skira-2012). . . RAP: What is your definition of art today? Lucia: Art is a universal treasure, a source of emotional well-being and vital knowledge. It’s a need, a magical force that opens, expands and integrates the mind and heart. . . RAP: Art is dynamic, regenerates itself... it changes & changes us… Lucia: Art is constantly changing, it’s never static. It looks to the past, reflects the present and anticipates the future, as Salvador Dalí did throughout his artistic journey. The beauty of art lies in its ability to forge connections in space and time, transforming both those who observe it and those who experience it. . . RAP: What role does art play today? Lucia: today art reflects challenges and contradictions of our time, stimulating critical thinking and fostering dialogue, inviting us to view reality from new perspectives. As a powerful tool for personal and collective expression, art evokes emotion, inspiring action and bringing about change. . . /en/ /in/luciamoni/ . . -Pict.2 (Dalí Theatre-Museum, Figueres): Courtesy of Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí . -Pict.5 (Dalí. Art, Whatever It Takes - Mark Evans Interview: Mark Evans studied History and Art History at the University of London (BA 1975) and the University of East Anglia (PhD 1983). His interest in art was kindled as a child in 1962 by visits to the National Gallery and Bridget Riley’s first exhibition at Gallery One in London. He has held posts at the British Library Department of manuscripts (London), the University of St. Andrews (Scotland), the Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool), the National Museum of Wales (Cardiff) and in 2000 was appointed Senior Curator of Paintings at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A, London). His interests extend from Renaissance painting and illumination to John Constable, as well as traditional African art and the history of museums and collecting. The author of numerous books, catalogues and essays, he has curated major exhibitions on Raphael (2010), Constable (2014) and Botticelli (2016). Since 2021 he has been an Honorary Senior Research fellow at the V&A. Rome Art Program: What role does art play today? Mark Evans: It stimulates critical thought and connects people through time as well as space. RAP: What would you recommend to an ‘emerging artist’ today? Mark: Authenticity is everything. Consult the best past models & seek to develop a unique style and content. RAP: What is the real role of Academies and Art schools today? What can artists learn from these institutions today? Mark: Academies of art have been challenged since the rise of the avant garde, but the notion that ‘great art’ is the preserve of outsiders is a myth, as it is inherently a social activity that is all about communication. The team worker Raphael was as great an artist as the loner Michelangelo, and a more influential one. Academies ought to provide a social space for interaction, the development of ideas and induction into the serious business of art. /in/mark-evans-7063881aa @RomeArtProgram Art-as-Power romeartprogram.org --- #art #artists #artschool #cultureroma #studyinitaly #italy #pleinairpainting #rome #caravaggio #leonardo #michelangelo #inspiration #drawing #painting #contemporaryart

Art, Whatever It Takes - Interview with Giulia Aversente Giulia Aversente was born in Albano Laziale (Rome). She graduated in Art History from Sapienza University of Rome. She began expressing her passion for drawing and painting by attending a Roman training school for comic artists, and later refined her knowledge in the workshop of Emiliano Alfonsi, her master. Giulia’s research is based on a contemporary vision, with clear references to the Renaissance tradition, investigating the spiritual sphere manifested in bodies understood as matter. RAP: What is your definition of “Art” today? Giulia Aversente: In my view, art is a silent refuge from the chaos of an unstable life, a voice that speaks through different languages, but with a shared universal energy. RAP: Art is dynamic and regenerates itself… how does it change? Giulia: As a product of humanity, art follows its destiny of evolution & progress, finding new ways to express itself and responding to the expressive needs of a given historical period. Change is an essential part of art, as it is connected to the human experience. RAP: What role does art play today? Giulia: Today, art is the voice of peoples and cultures, responding to the need to tell the story of our world. From prehistoric cave pictograms to the present, humanity continues to contemplate the unknown beyond itself. The role of art is certainly to reveal and to express the transformations of a reality that moves fast and is shaken by challenging situations. @giuliaaversentepainter RomeArtProgram @romeartprogram Art-as-Power --- #art #artists #artschool #studyinitaly #studyinrome #italy #rome #pleinairpainting #beinspired #drawing #painting #art #unioneinternazionale #aur_arts @cultureroma

RAP Faculty, Milos Zahradka Maiorana collaborates with artist Jill Moser and Kathryn Markel Fine Arts NYC for the exhibition, Jill Moser "Talking Pictures: Collaborations." Talking Pictures: Collaborations is an exhibition of 40 of Moser’s painted collages that form the basis of her new book project. For Talking Pictures: Collaborations, Moser asked friends and colleagues to create a dialogue with one of her painted collages. Poets, artists, journalists, critics, curators, art historians, novelists, psychoanalysts accepted the invitation, forming a chorus that plays along the border of the visual and the verbal. This exhibition presents the painted collages alongside each contributor’s response. Art, Whatever It Takes - Interview with Lucy Sony Lucy Soni was born in Kent, 1973. She lives and works in London. She graduated BA Painting, Chelsea College of Art London and Turps Art School. She is represented by Voltz Clarke Gallery NYC. Soni’s practice is rooted in painting, with an interest in chaos and control, colour, light, and the urge to mark make. This plays out through a hand-made process, without the use of tape, producing large-scale, intensely colorful paintings. Immersed in complexity and producing a sort of control out of chaos, Soni’s paintings are exercises in accuracy, seeking to celebrate color and form. Lucy exhibited widely and her work can be found in public and private collections in the UK, Hong Kong, and the US. Soni’s curatorial project Why Don’t You…? HQ is an ongoing project in her home, taking part in Art Licks Weekend 2015 – 2019. She co-curates BLINK, an artist-led platfom, set up in 2021. She currently has a solo show at Voltzclarke NYC, 2026. Rome Art Program: What role does art play today? Lucy: The same roles it’s always played but more accessible and commodified. RAP: What would you recommend to an emerging artist today? Lucy: Keep going. Do it yourself. Build a supportive network. Most artists will (if they are lucky) spend their whole career ‘emerging’. ‘Arriving’ is often the death of art. RAP: How have new technologies & media culture changed art today?.. made it better or worse?...challenges? Lucy: They are tools. Artists will find ways to play with and subvert them. Things have the potential to be gained and lost from their use. @lucysonistudio RomeArtProgram Art-as-Power romeartprogram.org --- #art #artists #artschool #studyabroad #studyinitaly #studyinrome #italy #rome #beinspired #drawing #painting #contemporaryart #culture #unioneinternazionale #inspiration

Art, Whatever It Takes - Interview with Denis Farrell Denis Farrell, director of Lodestar School of Art, Fulbright Scholar New York Studio School and MFA Painting Yale School of Art. He has exhibited in New York, US, UK, France, and Ireland with museum exhibitions at The Dock and Limerick City Gallery of Art. Denis Farrell is represented by Taylor Galleries, Dublin. Rome Art Program: What is your definition of "art" today? Denis: Art is the observable metaphor of an artist’s deep love for the time we have in this flawed paradise. RAP: What role does art play today? Denis: The role it has always played, to express our insatiable hunger for excellence and appreciation through metaphor in paint or poetry, dance or photography, cinema, song, etc. Art changes us if it opens in us a kind of light and direction towards silence. RAP: What is the real role of academies and art schools today? What can artists learn from them today? Denis: To provide a sanctuary for students to fail. Painting, my discipline has a long tradition so painters are best suited to teach the discipline. Academies can be restrictive, with their grip on lauding of established notions of what good painting is. Academic; no longer relevant. Too much reverence of style and not enough failing and flailing in the dim light of the dawning of the new and unfamiliar. Better to get in the ring with the past than on your knees to it. Pray on your day off. @denis.farrell --- Come paint with us in Rome! Apply today for Summer 2026 at romeartprogram.org. ✨️ Rome Art Program has an internationally recognized faculty of artists, visiting artists, art historians, and curators. Executive Director Jill Sarver Rossi and RAP alumni attend the exhibition preview of RAP Visiting Artist, Justin Bradshaw, at Galerie Sardine, NYC. Curated by Valentina Akerman, “Materia: Memoria" features paintings by Justin Bradshaw and ceramics by Maria Robledo and is on view through January 31 at Galerie Sardine in NYC. —— Originally from East London and long based outside Rome, Justin Bradshaw paints vivid depictions of private interiors. His recurring motif—the unmade bed—summons the figure by portraying its absence, through the imprints and traces that remain on each surface. His works carry both the weight of the body and the transience of its passing, signs of a life just beyond the frame. Deeply informed by Renaissance treatises yet resolutely contemporary, Bradshaw’s work reanimates painting’s ancient intimacy with earth and figure. Within these domestic vignettes, the bed, the chair, become metaphoric thresholds—sites where presence and absence, rest and mortality quietly coexist. Courtesy @galeriesardine --- ROME ART PROGRAM Come paint with us in Rome… APPLY TODAY for Summer 2026!
