BerlinDiscoveries is a new exhibition format dedicated to contemporary photographic positions from Berlin, presenting 16 photographers across four exhibitions and four artist talks. The program focuses on documentary, portrait, conceptual, and experimental works engaging with contemporary urban and social realities.
My work will be shown alongside Marshl Ceron / Laszlo Randelzhofer, Marina Mónaco, and Niklas Schader as part of BerlinDiscoveries 2026 Nr.2.

“ My name is Rokas Jankus, and I’m a Berlin-based photographer originally from Lithuania. My work focuses on documentary and street photography, exploring the rhythm of cities, human interaction, and the unnoticed details of everyday life. I’m interested in creating images that feel honest, atmospheric, and closely connected to the environments they emerge from.
I currently shoot with the Leica SL2-S and the Fujifilm X-Pro2, mostly using 35mm and 24mm focal lengths.“

May 1st functions as both a public holiday and a political demonstration, rooted in the international labor movement of the late 19th century.
In Berlin, the day produces a temporary reconfiguration of urban space: streets are occupied, routes are redirected, and public space becomes a site of collective expression.
Different groups, agendas, and forms of participation overlap, creating a layered and dynamic environment.

Yesterday I led a street photography workshop in Berlin organized by @filmriss.photoclub
We started with an extended theoretical session - approaches, references, and ways of seeing in public space.
After that, we went out to Alexanderplatz for field work, applying these ideas in real situations.
We ended the day with a joint edit and review, reflecting on the images and discussing different decisions and perspectives.
The participants made strong progress over the course of the day, both in how they approached situations and how they developed their images.

The images were taken at @ravetheplanet in Berlin, Germany, 2025.
Since 2022, Rave The Planet has taken place annually and is widely regarded as the successor to the former Love Parade, initiated again by its founder @dr_motte .
In 2025, hundreds of thousands gathered along Straße des 17. Juni. Heavy rain set in during the parade, turning the day into something physically intense and visually distinct - wet asphalt, soaked clothes, movement that did not stop.

This post shows photographs I made around the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany.
I lived in Hamburg for six years, and St. Pauli was always my favorite part of the city — the place I kept returning to.
The Reeperbahn is defined by contrast: subculture and tourism, nightlife and everyday routines, excess and normality existing side by side.
Different social worlds overlap here, often within just a few meters.
For me, there is no other place quite like it anywhere in the world.
Spending time there shaped how I observe tension, proximity, and the layered character of public space.

The energy of the city has always impressed me. It’s pace, density, and constant movement across different neighborhoods.
I have been there a few times, and the impressions the city left on me have stayed with me ever since.
I am planning to return again later this year to spend more time walking, observing, and photographing the city.

Starting with Fez, Morocco (2020).
Founded in the 8th century, Fez is one of Morocco’s oldest cities and a major cultural and religious center. Its medina, Fes el Bali, is the largest medina in North Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, characterized by high density, mixed use, and limited car access.
The photographs were made while walking through the medina and are shared here as part of an ongoing selection of street work across locations.

Wie entsteht ein gutes Street-Foto?
Nicht durch Perfektion, sondern durch Neugierde, Aufmerksamkeit und Präsenz.
In diesem eintägigen Workshop in Berlin sprechen wir über:
1) Stile & Ansätze der Street Photography
2) Technik: Blende, Verschluss, ISO, Bewegung
3) Rechtliches Fotografieren im öffentlichen Raum
4) Bewegung in der Stadt & das Finden von Motiven 5) gemeinsame Bildbesprechung
Nach einem gemeinsamen Theorieteil gehen wir raus fotografieren. Am Abend besprechen wir die entstandenen Bilder im Review.
Kamera oder Smartphone, alles ist erlaubt. Es ist nur wichtig dass man Verschlusszeiten, ISO und Blende manuell steuern kann. Der Workshop Inhalt wird auf deutsch vermittelt und mit englisch, wo notwendig unterstützt.

Zone Focusing > Auto Focus 📸 Das Zone Focusing ist eine Technik, bei der der Fokus vorab auf eine bestimmte Entfernung eingestellt wird, um schnelle Aufnahmen zu machen, ohne erneut wieder scharf zu stellen. Dabei werden oft Blenden von f/8 oder f/11 benutzt 💥
